Hi,

I'd like to find an adult, english style lab for adoption. We have 3 young kids at home (6, 4 and 2) and a male greyhound (11 years old). We have a fenced-in yard.

I live in Massachusetts.

Does anyone know of any available labs? I'd like one between 1-5 years old.

Thanks!:D

Have your tried your local shelters? How about Lab rescues in your area?

I'd definitely recommend Labs4Rescue; I believe they service the entire east coast, but don't quote me on that. We adopted our lab from them, and I have nothing but great things to say about my lab and the organization as a whole.

I'm curious, though... why specifically an english-style lab?

Unfortunately most folks want a rescue between 1 and 5 years old. If you are willing to consider a slightly older dog, 6-7, you will have much better chances of getting the perfect dog quickly. I'm not saying that you won't find a younger one just that it's more difficult. Keep checking Petfinder and Petharbor. Most shelters and many rescues use one or both of them.

Thank you for considering rescues! We have three of them! One PB and 2 mixes. LOVE them all!

I'm sure there are many wonderful rescues out there waiting to be adopted, however we will have a much harder time finding an "english" type. Have you contacted any breeders? Sometimes they place older dogs who didn't quite cut it in the ring. Just be prepared they aren't cheap. Just remember the dog is trained, vaccinated, and altered. Make wonderful pets! Please don't flame me, just trying to help the op!

BTW, mine was purchased as a puppy for the show ring.

I would hope that you wouldn't be "flamed" for trying to help someone find a dog that is going to be the best fit for them!

Ohh which dog? I was looking yesterday (I adopted my dog there so I look at the dogs weekly just to keep up) and there are some beautiful sweet dogs listed right now.

Thanks everyone, but sometimes people get upset cause they feel I'm trying to sway someone away from rescue. Thats not the case at all, just saying it will be harder to find what she looking for in rescue, not impossible.

No worries. I think we are all on board with what you are saying.

I was thinking the same thing; that's why I asked the OP why he/she is looking specifically for an English-style lab.

So long as dogs in need find loving homes, I'm happy. Since I'm actively involved in rescue, it is hard for me to constantly see posts about puppies coming from breeders when I know how many wonderful labs there are in rescue right now, but I understand that rescue isn't for everyone.

I agree nothing wrong with rescue dogs. Before I had my Avery I had a wonderful Akita/Shep mix from a local rescue. He was a wonderful dog. He tragically was hit by a car and killed instantly when he escaped from my fence one night. I got Avery because I lost my Sammy. I wanted to get back in to showing so I had to go through a breeder to get Avery. A very carefully screened breeder. Will I ever have another rescue, probably yes, just wasn't right for what I was looking for. I work at an animal hopital and everyday see many wondeful rescue dogs come in with their new familys and it's a win win situation. I also see many dogs that come in from a BYB or puppy mills and think boy you fools got taken.

Sorry op for rambling on, good luck in your search!
