Last Nov. I emailed the list seeking a black male English lab, which I finally located on Petfinders. Ten year old Harley was sent out to me and we had 10 lovely months together before he was diagnosed with acute liver failure. He had to be PTS just 2 weeks ago, and of course I am devastated. But now I am hoping to find another who needs a forever home.

I am sorry to hear about Harley...

He had ten wonderful months of knowing love and I am sure he thanked you for that.

We have a rescue section on this board, so maybe make a post over in that section. Otherwise, keep checking petfinder...unfortunately there is never a shortage of dogs that need loving homes.

Welcome to the board and thank you for loving Harley!

sO SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT HARLEY.

IF you go to petfinder.org, you can search by breed of dog, gender, age, state, and then hit enter and it will bring up all the dogs fitting your description at the area shelters.

Paws crossed for you-I know you will find someone to love.

Bless you for adopting an older dog as they are always tougher to place because people llok for puppies. Good luck on your search.

If you check Petfinder, check "adult" as well as "senior." I have noticed that some shelters don't use the "senior" category at all and call all of the seniors "adult."

Mocha, only 10 months-old, is a beautiful pure-bred chocolate lab full of energy and play. She is very loyal and does not demand extreme amounts of human touch. However, she is happiest when there are people around her. She is 100% healthy and loves the outdoors and water. Mocha is up-to-date on all of her shots and has been spayed. There is no doubt that she will adapt well to a new home. She is completely house-trained and crate-trained. She also has had basic puppy classes and can sit, stay and heel while walking. It is very important that Mocha have a safe, fenced-in back yard at her new home. Mocha deserves nothing short of the best possible home and family. .Mocha

He will be neutered and up-to-date on all shots as well as Heartworm negative and on preventative. You see, gorgeous Buddy is stuck in a shelter until we get a loving foster person to offer to take him in temporarily. Could that awesome person be you? Buddy is very afraid in the shelter and needs to be in a loving home environment. Please consider helping him. Thanks so much. Buddy

Last night My husband and I were leaving the local grocery store when we saw an employee holding this huge male lab. She stated that he was lost and she was waiting for the city pound to come and pick him up. Knowing that they kill dogs regularly we took him home. We currently have two other dogs we have rescued and can not provided him the care that he needs. Looking for a good home for him but do not want the pound to have him as he is very sweet. He looks pure bred and weighs at least 80 lbs. If interested please respond. 210-767-0942 ask for Diane or Ray

My husband and I rescued a huge male lab from the grocery store parking lot as he was being held by store employees for pickup by the city pound. He is very sweet and seems to get along with other dogs. Due to us having two other rescue dogs we can not care for him but do not want to send him to the pound as they are a kill shelter. If interested please call us at 210-767-0942 ask for Ray or Diane

Diane, if he has no tag, you need to have him scanned for a microchip. Animal control can scan him for you, and you do not need to relinquish him in order for them to do it. Also, your vet should be able to scan him for a chip. Someone might be looking desperately for their beloved dog.
The shelter should also be informed that you have him in case someone calls them looking for the dog. You should also call area vets to see if any of their patients are missing.
Depending on where you are in south Texas, there might not be a rescue. All of the Texas rescues usually have their hands full with the dogs who are in kill shelters who are at risk in their own areas. Your best bet is probably to try to get the dog into an all breed rescue (who are always very full, too) or a no-kill shelter, which might take some time. I tried to get a found lab into a no-kill shelter in Central Texas, and they told me that the waiting list was at least a month long.
If you find that you must re-home him yourself, please check out this link:
http://www.petrescue.com/library/find-adopter.htm
There is a library section with a list of telephone interview questions to ask people who call about the dog. This is very helpful. Make sure to ask for a small fee to help ensure that he doesn't fall into the wrong hands. Also, a local rescue might allow you to do a courtesy listing of the dog on their web site, which could be very helpful in finding people who are interested in adopting him.
Good luck!
