FOUND on Pleasant Hill Church Road in Chatham County, NC

NOW IN THE ANIMAL CONTROL SHELTER

A couple found seven puppies Monday night in the bitter cold near our house. Believe they were dumped there, mother was not around and the pups ran to them. Managed to keep them warm for one night, but had no choice but to take them to the Animal Shelter, because of no infrastructure to keep them housed, fenced and warm. At the worst, euthanasia is better than freezing or starving to death.

Animal Control could start euthanizing them by this coming Monday morning, January 26. If you wish to adopt, here's some info. The puppies are all very healthy and happy, four boys and three girls. Animal Control believes they are probably either Black Laborador, or a mostly Black Lab mix. They are between 10 and 12 weeks of age. They are large pups, maybe 15# or more each. A vet exam, puppy's first shots, and neutering/spaying are all included in the $75 adoption fee per pup.

Chatham County Animal Control Shelter is 919-542-7203.
Monday through Friday from 9 to 5, Saturday from 10 to 2

What kind of person would have dumped these babies on an 18 degree night?

Thank you! No, I don't think they are on the shelter's site. I tried to call but they closed at 4 pm EST, so I will have to try again tomorrow. Here is their petfinder link, anyway: http://www.petfinder.org/shelters/NC32.html

They work with a rescue there, but according to the lady who found the puppies (I called her to give her the names of other rescues) they are full. Here's their link, too: http://www.chathamanimalrescue.org/index.shtml

I've talked with the rescue group where we got Java and I'm going to see if this shelter is open to other rescues pulling the pups out... This is such a bad time of year...

I got in touch with the shelter in Chatham County and all 7 of those puppies have been adopted! The word got out and it worked!

I just heard back from my friend who runs a rescue and she is in the process of placing even more abandoned puppies in fosters...

4 4-m.o. pups found in a box in the woods
7 3-m.o pups found in a dumpster
2 pups found in the median strip of a highway

There are so many who need help... I may be helping feed some of these babies this weekend.

So true, Nikki... this time of year and with the cold, especially...

I am fostering the two found on the highway. I'm taking them to an adopt-a-thon tomorrow, with the rescue group I'm volunteering with. You may have seen their pictures, since I can't help but post them everywhere. :p:

I'm so glad to hear those squeezable, huggable, adorable pups were adopted. Who could do such an awful thing to babies!
I was ready to call cousin in N.C. and have her get one & ship to me in R.I.! People are sick, sick, sick!
