Hey everybody,

I have a question concerning my 3 month old lab - I have a Golden Retriever so I'm somewhat familiar with the many poop problems one can have with a puppy, but I've noticed that Harley has very grainy poop...it's solid, but when she does poop, it's the same colour as the food, which is a yellowish-brown, and a LOT comes out. It just seems like it's going through her too fast. The breeder had her on Science Diet, and I'm switching her slowly to Nutro LR as I did with my other puppy...is this poop thing because of the corn meal in the Science Diet?

No clue on that.

Science Diet probably has alot of non-digestable ingredients and that's why you are seeing alot of poop.

How long before you have switched the pup completely off SD?

Well, it'll be about a month before she's completely off the SD...I ran out and I couldn't find a small bag of it in this city so I had to buy a big one, so even though it's a crap food, I don't exactly want to throw it all away, either.

She's at about 1/2 Nutro LR and 1/2 SD and her stools are already changing for the better - it just seemed as if she was having problems digesting something in the SD. I'd never seen that before. It was some very bizarre poop.

If she's not doing well with the SD, you can always go ahead and switch her... the leftover food can be donated to a shelter.

Well, it's not that she isn't doing well, per se, her stools are solid and all that jazz, but she's doing better as I switch her. That's a good idea, though, to donate the leftover food. This way I don't have to delay the changing process any longer. I never thought of that. Thanks!
