Imagine that. :p: I just read the post about how often to bathe, and while I agree that less is more when it comes to how often to bathe.....Reese gets sooooo stinky. I hardly ever bathe my shepherds and they NEVER smell. They are all brushed the same amount, but Reese gets very oily and smelly and so we end up bathing him every 2 or 3 months.

Any suggestions?????

I don’t think every 2-3 months is unreasonable. We try to do ours every month, May through September.

That shouldn't be a problem. He will certainly have to have one before the wedding :D . Climate and food play a part in this as well I know ours guys are in the water so much in the summer and then rolling around in the snow in winter we don't actually have to use soap on them. I have also noticed since they are BARF fed the dog smell just is not there the same way as when they where on kibble. ;)

Yeah, I guess it's not exessive. I just don't have to bathe the shepherds that much, so I start thinking maybe there's some labby secret that I don't know. ;) We try not to bathe him often, but he gets so bad that I don't want to pet him. :( And a fat dog needs loving.

Labracorn, I wish I could do BARF. I did it with Carolene from the time she was 4 months till a little over two years old, when I got Sullivan and started working. I love BARF, but just can't do it with three dogs and working. I need a wife, not a husband. lol! I know that would help...and would help with the shepherd's allergies. My vet says they are seasonal allergies, but Carolene never had seasonal allergies on BARF.

 vets  I'm sure that because labs are water dogs with double coats and GSDs are basically the opsited the type of oils and coat things make them very different and that would account for odour. Maybe once you get all your busy stuff over and in your own home BARF may look easier basically it is getting everything together and making a plan We do meat every 3 months account for a day and veggies about 3-4 weeks depending on whats available. Of course you need a freezer ;)

If you don't frequently brush Reese often, maybe brushing more will help. Othrwise, I too feel that bathing once every 2-3 months isn't that bad. I don't think that it would be that bad on the coat considering I've heard of a few people who would bathe their Labs every 2-3 weeks.

How about using a listerine spray on the dog to freshing them. Mix 50% water with 50% listerine in a spray bottle. Spray and let dry or wipe with a towell.. It is amazing how this zaps away the doggy oder.

Technically for labs-yes it is bad. For other breeds it may be fine however for a lab it dries out needed oils in their coat.

We've noticed this too. I was even scrubbing the crate thinking it stank. Since feeding homemade they are smell-free :).

We wash ours once every season (lake swimming doesn't count).
