Just thought I would try here.
I am now working in a Vets office in Thousand Oaks, So Cal. A 78 year old lady is a client of ours and she came in last week with this poster. Her grandson begged her to get a lab puppy and he would come every day to look after him. His parents wouldn't let him have a dog so he turned to Granny. She agreed and then the obvious happened. His visits became erratic and then stopped all together. He doesn't want him at all, not that she would let her grandson take him now. She is now 'stuck' with Chico. He is too much for this little lady. She walk the 6 blocks to our office as she has no one to help her getting Chico in the car. Last week he pulled her over and she has 2 really badly scraped knees.
Chico is a really sweet dog. He sits when told and is not dog or people aggressive at all. He seems to walk well on a leash.......except for the incident last week. He is a strong boy and just needs some proper exercise and more training. He has been coming in to us since he was a baby, so we have all his records. He is not neutered though.
All our client wants is a really good home for Chico, no money, so she is going to be really picky about who he goes to.
Every one at our office agrees that he is the sweetest dog. I would take him in a heartbeat but we are at our limit.
Any one know someone???

Can she maybe get someone to train him and walk him for her so she can keep him? A dog is such a good companion for a senior living alone. It would be nice if they could stay together!

She is old and frail. Even a trained lab would be too much for her. She really needs a lap dog. I do feel sorry for her because she does a lot for him and any vets needs she is right there....even walking about 2 miles there and back.

What a handsome boy. I bet he is a handful for an older lady. How nice of you to help put the word out. I am way to far away to help but wanted to wish you good luck:)

Have her contact SCLRR, she can do an owner listing and then only approved families would be able to contact her and she would have the final say as to where he would go.
* the best vet I ever had was in thousand oaks.

That's the one!! My parents took our cats there when I was a kid (over 30 years ago) and I continue to take my cats there and that is Rampage's vet as well. Even though it is a long drive. BEST VET EVER! When Bathsheba Kitty's anal sac ruptured I called them and they said bring her in right away I told them it was a long drive but that I was coming and they said they would wait for me. It is hard to find that kind of service anymore, it is very much appreciated!

I just moved away from T.O., and lived right off TO Blvd...darn...if I was still there I'd absolutely adopt him! How old is Chico? I'll see if I can locate friends in Ventura County who may be interested.

This is a crazy question but is he an inside dog? Well house trained? We had our lab for 13 years after taking him from a bad neighbor. He was in the house full time. Daddy works days. Mommy works nights. Always someone home with him. We may be thinking about getting a new baby but we are not puppy people.

Chico is 2 years old and just an absolute love bug. This picture doesn't do him justice at all.

DanielleHolt..I have sent you a PM

I just joined so I can't reply to your PM. So sorry!!! Please send number. Just a bit about us: I am 42 Tim is 44. He owns the home so no ladlord issues. I have had dogs all my life. Tim has only had only one other dog (when he was a boy) so my dog and I trained him. He can now bathe, feed, water, walk, love, hug and give belly rubs upon demand. Took us awhile to teach him to roll over but once Duke smiled at him he was hooked. We both have alot of love to offer. I'm going to be honest and tell you we plan on any dog we get will be fixed. We do not want to breed or have any grandpuppies. We have looked at breeders but we don't want a baby. Tim and I aren't looking to replace Duke. We just want a dog that needs a good home.
Thanks, Danielle

I called this very nice lady and she had already made plans to turn Chico over to a rescue group. I hope he finds a nice home.

Hi Danielle, any chance you could follow up with the rescue if you're still interested and apply to adopt? Just a thought, if you were interested in Chico.

:eek::eek: Chico's picture and details are still up on the notice board so I guess I shall have to take it down.
Did she say which rescue group? and when?

When I talked to her she said he was a nice dog but never an indoor dog. I know the rescue group will find him a good home. Tim and I don't want a baby to just sit outside. Just not the way we are. Duke was inside with us full time. When it's right we will find a new buddy. I will keep checking on here. I do want to thank Beau's Mum for the help.

So he can't be taught to be an indoor dog?Roxy used to sleep outside in the dirt before she came to us. Believe me, she adapted VERY quickly to a nice, soft doggy bed...
