I did it a couple years ago and lost about 20lbs. I have been on the maintenance phase for a couple years now and doing pretty well. I actually just started phase 1 again yesterday because I have been craving sugar, eating way too much and gained a few pounds. I really like this diet because it promotes a healthy lifestyle too. Once you are past phase 1 it is not so hard. I would recommend it definitely!!! It is true that you lose the belly fat first:thumb4:

I tried this because I didn't want to give up ALL carbs but wanted the results of a low carb diet however didn't see much results (or atleast not as fast as I wanted) and all I wanted to lose was 5 lbs.

After my mom lost 30 lbs. on the Atkins diet I switched and meet my goal in like 2 weeks. Of course it was mostly water weight but it gave me a boost in my metabolism and helped me kick my sugar addiction.:D

I lost 20lbs following South beach. Unfortunately, the last month has been pretty bad for me with a lot of eating out, parties, bbqs, etc. I'm thinking of getting back on it but probably on phase 2 since I don't think I've had cravings but I'm not 100% sure. Even though I have not been on it I still incorporate a lof of their ideas into my eating like whole wheat pasta when I make pasta and eat brown, wild or converted rice. I eat lots of veggies and very lean cuts of meat.

Good luck if you decide to do this diet, I even got the cookbook to help me out and found a great forum too!

Basically the first two weeks which is Phase 1 you don't have any carbohydrates like bread, rice, cereal, sugar, fruit, etc. The first two weeks help to eliminate the cravings from your system.

Then you move to Phase 2 and that is when you gradually re-introduce complex carbohydrates like brown rice and whole wheat or whole grain breads, certain fruits and vegetables as well. You stay on Phase 2 until you reach your goal.

Finally, you move to Phase 3 where you keep a lot of the principles from Phase 2 and Phase 1 but start having other "forbidden" foods in moderation. Phase 3 is the maintenance phase where you should be able to maintain your weight loss.

Hope that clarifies it for you a bit more, if not ask away :brow:

Good luck, I'm back on it though I got back on Phase 2 - if my cravings get the better of me then I will go back to Phase 1. I must say Phase 1 is the hardest part - after that it is smooth sailing.

I lost about 15 lbs. on SB a few years ago; it's a good diet. Here I am, years later... and I just started it again yesterday! I'm looking forward to hopefully getting the same results this time!
*Tip! Take fiber supplements; it really helps! :)

I lost about 30lbs right after college on the Atkins diet (very similar to south beach). That was about 3 years ago and I haven't put on any weight until recently. So i gained 10 pounds so I am back in phase one. NO CARBS!

I like the no carbs because it can really help with sugar addiction. you don't realize how physically and emotionally tied to sugar you are! So 8 pounds to go so i can get back down to 130 and then off to phase three. My phase one ends in one week so wish me luck! Peanuts and Jerky for lunch. Can't wait to add in fruit.

I love having the magic bullet because I can make my own fruit smoothies and it saves money. just fruit and ice or fruit, soymilk, vanilla yogurt and ice. It's awesome and quick!
