Just throwing out the idea... How many would like to get together? I am thinking late summer or early fall, but am open to suggestions!

You name the place, date etc that would work for you...

Also try to tell me where you are so that we can kinda get in betweeners for everyone!

OK, my location is Windsor (ie, South of Detroit, right out of the tunnel). Some great parks around here.

What do you have?

Sounds like a great idea. Would have to be in July or August though. My wife is a teacher and will be off for the summer.

Usually every Civic Holiday weekend my wife and I go south to Celebrate our Anniversary.

Pick a place ! (Not too much smog please...LOL);)

Don't forget the LOC Lab Owners Club Speciality, June 4,5,6 at Cambridge.

June is a hectic month for the wife with report cards due and testing and corrections for years end.

July or August is the only time for a trip south.

Mid-August to Thanksgiving are out for me. Tomato harvest is in full swing and we have a crazy work schedule. Any other time is fine. I"m in Dresden, but often in Huron County on weekends.

I don't really know if the middle of the summer is really realistic...it gets pretty hot ya know! ;) UNless we have it somewhere where there is clean H2O for the kiddies to swim in.

Labracorn...I have not forgotten the LOC show...looks like it might be a go for Owe and I after all!

Let's see if this is easier...

How bout the weekend of September 18-19? I really don't care, cause I can take whatever time off I want.

No one told me when they could or where, just when they couldn't!

Sounds great to me!

September 18th is my anniversary so if I had a choice, I'd prefer to avoid that weekend. Although, if we are getting together within an hour's drive or so, I could come out for the day and still make it back for dinner with the hubby!

It sounds like between Henneberry & Kleb, it would need it to be July - Early/Mid August... I'm available the weekends of 7/10 - 7/11 or 7/31 - 8/1. Unfortunately, we spend most of our summer in northern Michigan.

I don't have any suggestions for places... at least not yet! It sounds like the Windsor area is pretty dog friendly.

July is nice...as for swimming...we got anyone on the board with some property on Lake Huron..maybe around Callingwood or Osaga ? Always a nice breeze there.

My parent's farm is on the Maitland river. The farm is about 15 miles from Goderich, Point Farms Provincial Park, Benmiller Conservation Area, Hullet Marsh and various other things. It's a great area but, not sure if much dog friendly accommodation available.
I'd need to run the idea past my parents first. I'm also really bad at organizing things.:D

Might be the secret to getting that bumper crop of corn!!!

I also forgot there is a campground close by, part of the Maitland Valley Conservation Authority. Not much in the way of ammenities though.

Ooooh Ooooh! Count me in too!!!!!

I'm in Rochester Hills, Michigan...so Windsor is definitely do-able for us. Are there any stipulations to bringing a dog over the border? I've never tried. Dh says that there is special paperwork that needs to be filled out before hand and he we might have to declare treats (or other food) at the border.

As for dates, I'm pretty much open. Just can't do the weekends of July 3rd or 10th.

So ? Summer coming up on us fast...LOL

I have been thinking about this lately too...

These dates are out for me...

June 5 and 6
June 18, 19, 20 (unless you are thinking Dorchester)
June 27, unless Dorchester again

July 9, 10, 11 (unless Woodstock)

That is all I know of for now. I am making a summer of showing Owee. I know Woodstock is rather central. But not sure if the US friends here would be willing to drive that far...probably an hour and a half from the bridge.

I also know that it will be way hot about this time of year.

Off to find some doggy friendly placed!

Can you guys do the weekend of July 31 - August 1st? Reading back through previous posts, it sounds like that might be almost the only weekend we all had in common. Why don't we decide on a weekend and then post something in general chat for SW Ontario/Michigan members to check the thread and RSVP if they would come? Then we could plot out where everyone is and pick a reasonably central place.

sounds good here! I also found a little hidden park in the middle of Windsor with H2O access...

Pretty good chances here that we can make it... being a long weekend and all. July 31st to August 2nd sounds great !

Maybe we should invite Dryf too ! Never know when you might need a spare tire on the trip down. LOL

Excellent... there are quite a few members in our area that we haven't heard from yet.

Hope everyone can make it on the weekend of 7/31 - 8/1!

Would love to do something like that. Only one problem Jake and I would have to come on the 1st the 31st is my Son's b day but if you pick somewhere like winsor or det area it would be easy for us we live near Lansing Michigan so that would work. Keep me posted please.

I'm afraid Dryf's tire will not be around to help out in case of an emergency ;)

I'd LOVE to go...but Windsor is a 14hr drive from here, a little far for me right now (also...I don't have a car!!).

Hopefully there will be a second get-together in a year or so...when I'll more likely be able to go (and hey...maybe even a second fur-kid). :)

I can't wait to see MANY MANY pictures :brow:

Any Ideas ?

I've got the PM luvmydog, thanks.

I would LOVE to go but I can hardly get Tommy in the car to go to his puppy class in Toronto... I can't even imagine going as far as Windsor.
He is really scared of the car, he cries, shakes and drools. I'm working on this... :(

I finally checked my PM's. The weekend sounds good. We normally go camping but we are going to the East coast Aug 7-23 so missing a day camping or so won't kill us.

OK... summer is sneaking by! If we're going to plan this for the weekend of 7/31 - 8/1, we'd better get going! I just found out that an out of state friend I haven't seen in a few years will be in town that weekend so I'm hoping that we can get together on Sunday, August 1st. Or, at least I'll be able to come for a few hours in the morning on Saturday.

Melissa, have you got a specific park in mind?

R&R's Mum
06-28-2004, 05:31 PM
I am thinking Malden Park. Its a great big huge park that is about 40-45 minutes from me...closer to the boarder.

That weekend works for me!

Anybody else have locations?

coaken
06-28-2004, 05:33 PM
I've only ever been there once. Do they allow dogs to use the water Melissa? If so I think that's a great idea..:D

Christine J
06-28-2004, 08:13 PM
Cinder and I haven't ventured out enough yet to find any great dog-friendly parks.

How about Malden Park on the 1st of August for all who can make it? No reason why we couldn't do another gathering in the fall if there is enough interest.

I found this map of Malden Park's location:

http://www.pc.gc.ca/lhn-nhs/on/malden/visit/visit1_E.asp

Melissa, do you know if dogs are allowed to swim there?

R&R's Mum
06-29-2004, 04:37 PM
Sorry Christine J...I had to laugh out loud when I clicked your link...you got FORT MALDEN...and let me say, the vision of the pooches in 17th century war garb almost made me tinkie!

MALDEN PARK is right off of Huron Church...I will get you directions. It is not that far from the BORDER (there I spelled it right this time) as FORT MALDEN is!

I can got there this weekend and find out if dogs can swim there. There is a great big pond in the centre.

Off to look...

Try this: (to the sound of muskets and bag pipes...sorry still stuck on the Fort Malden thing...it was one of those field trips they make you take in grade school...every year...)

Nope thats not it...trying this linking thing again....Be right back

I give up...off of the bridge, go away from the water until you see a sign that says "Windsor Regional Hospital" follow that road until it says 'MALDEN PARK" then you are there. Maybe a three minute drive from the bridge...

Christine J
06-29-2004, 06:17 PM
LOL... that is pretty funny! :floor OK, so I don't know anything about Ontario! Evidently Google doesn't know much more!

The REAL Malden Park sounds great! So, do we now have an official date and place???

R&R's Mum
06-29-2004, 08:50 PM
Sure do!

I hope Henneberry is creeping around here and sees this...I think he remembers my yahoo info...hint hint.

AUGUST 1st MALDEN PARK...SEE YOU THERE!

Hmmm? Just Christine and I?

Nah! I know that there are more!

Rhys' breeder might come, and I have invited a few others from obedience class (just labs of course, and Jake, the Norwegian Elkhound who things he is a lab.) Don't know if they will come though.

Come on people, we have to make this as HUGE as Lab Fest - CO. !

We can do it!

Just checking in after a holiday weekend at Cedar Point... I KNOW there are others out there in our area. Melissa, why don't we start an RSVP thread w/ date and location details as they did for the East Coast and ask that it be made a "sticky"? Perhaps we could post in General Chat for the Michigan - Ontario members to check that thread...???

Even if it's just you and me, it will still be fun! :D

COAKEN...When dealing with dogs...chopped liver is not a bad thing! ;)

You, my friend are not chopped liver, and I am soooo happy you are comming! I am going to Malden Park tonight...to see if it is dog friendly H2O wise...will post pics.

Oops... I didn't mean to offend you Coaken (or anyone else!) Sorry if I did! My poorly made point was that even if we have a small group, it's going to be lots of fun for all who are able to make it. I am SO looking forward to meeting you & Sienna and hopefully many others.

Melissa, I'm looking forward to seeing your pics of Malden Park... thanks for scouting the location for us! Why don't you take note of an appropriate place for us to meet up so we don't spend our time trying to find each other?

Sounds like a fun time, but unfortunately we will be recooping from working our Conformation Show which finishes on the Friday so we will be home and tuckered.
