View Full Version : Southern California/AZ/Southern Nevada Lab Lovers... Report Here!
MISS LISA 08-12-2004, 01:10 PM Alright- I know I keep starting threads about different ones.. but it seems like there are a little more options.. (More people, more places..etc..) if we do the SW LabFest in So Cal.
Jen (Jstarr66) and I are going to start looking into a couple places.. but if anyone has any suggestions.. here is where to post it!! We were thinking about a weekend in September? So we will need to see WHICH weekend is the best for everyone..
Sept 11th-12th
Sept 18th-19th
Sept 25th-26th
What does everyone down here think??? People in AZ, Southern Nevada... or anywhere around here that is willing to make the drive is welcome too!!!
:D
Shadow's Madre 08-12-2004, 01:36 PM I think the weekend of the 11-12th would be good. We could have it in Balboa Park in San Diego. It is huge with trails and shade and tables..
Well I moved this one from the General Chat section, but you already started another one. So until someone gets in here and cleans this mess up, ignore the other thread. I've asked Burtman to stick this one.
MISS LISA 08-12-2004, 03:21 PM LOL! Thats okay Barb!! Thanks for all your help in getting all the right ones stickied tho!! :D
You think you and the dh are up for a drive out west ;)
McKinley 08-12-2004, 06:08 PM September is too soon for us. Our calendar is already full. (Gosh how scary...we don't even have "human" kids yet)!
Dates in the middle of October work better...
MISS LISA 08-12-2004, 06:13 PM Darn! Maybe we can try one for September- than one for mid-end of October too.. :) Guess we better just try to take care of one first!
Max's Mom 08-12-2004, 06:23 PM September would work for us. But I don't have any ideas as to where.
CanyonLabradors 08-13-2004, 09:56 AM The first 2 Sept options are fine with me. Balboa Park in SD is a good idea.
How about this place: http://www.dogbeachsandiego.org/about/
I haven't been but have been dying to go! I would love a day at the beach!
McKinley 08-13-2004, 11:33 AM Dog Beach in OB is ok but not the best place. I have a lot of friends that have taken their dogs there and the dogs have gotten sick. It's pretty yucky.
I hear there is a beach on Coronado that is much nicer for dogs and much cleaner!
But that is just my personal opinion.

MISS LISA 08-13-2004, 12:18 PM That one looks beautiful Jen... but all three look great... September 11th or 18th are also better for me.. as I have another vacation coming up on September 30th. I know these places of off-leash, but I will probably keep Kali and Heidi on one.. they tend to not listen when all three get together and start running off... Pebbles will be fine, but I will have to keep the other two on leash.
Also.. I dont have ANY idea where their copies of the current licenses.. do they check them as you come in?
CanyonLabradors 08-14-2004, 04:23 PM Coronado sounds nice but I don't know if I would want to plan a day event there if there are no public restrooms for people. I think most people will be traveling some distance to get to this event and you'd have to be comfortable for the whole day. Just my :2cents:
Lisa, btw, I have never had anyone check my licence at any of the dog parks I have gone to...or any place for that matter....I know you should have them, but if you don't, it's probably not critical....
LabMommy 08-14-2004, 04:42 PM Do we have a tentative date/place set? I'm really wanting to meet some other labbies!!
Moni and Mocha
Shadow's Madre 08-14-2004, 06:24 PM Since most people want to be near the water.. we could have it at Mission Bay. It's at the water, they have gazebos for shade, public bathrooms and its nice and clean. I agree with the post about the OB Dog Beach.. it is really dirty even the bathrooms. Also in Coronado its hard to find parking, no bathrooms and there is always lots of people.. Just my :2cents:

MISS LISA 08-14-2004, 09:18 PM Alright, good to know Jen...
What do you think about Shadow's Madre's post?
Its up to all you So Cal people to decide on a place.. I dont know anything about any of these places...
What does everyone think?? Chime in!! :D

CanyonLabradors 08-15-2004, 12:07 AM I don't know anything about Mission Bay. I am really pretty much in the dark about much of San Diego. I'll see if I can find anything on it on-line.
I just found out my hubby is trying to plan a trip out of town in Sept. so I need to figure out when he is going before I finalize if I can make it. He's been dying to go to CO, and this might be the only time he can go out there this year.
CanyonLabradors 08-15-2004, 12:12 AM http://www.sannet.gov/park-and-recreation/general-info/bchdog.shtml
This is a link for the Mission Bay dog beach. Is it correct that it's only open to dogs AFTER 6PM? Allison, do you know?
Shadow's Madre 08-15-2004, 10:02 PM Dogs are allowed at Dog Beach and on Fiesta Island anytime.. But at all the other beaches and at the bay (which I didn't know) they are only allowed after 6 pm. So we would have to have it at Dor Beach in OB or at Fiesta Island or someplace off the water... What do you guys think?? Does anyone know how many of are in So Cal?? Allison
LabMommy 08-16-2004, 10:20 AM I think Fiesta Island would be perfect! That was a great suggestion! I looked it up online, and found two sites with great pics, one of a Weim get together, and one R.Ridgeback "fest." They looked like they had a blast!
This area gets my vote!

MISS LISA 08-16-2004, 10:47 AM Still deciding on a weekend as well.. Jen (Jstarr) did ya find out when your hubby is planning to go out of town?
LabMommy 08-16-2004, 12:42 PM From the posts I read, the 11-12 looks like the best option date wise.
Lisa, do you agree that Fiesta Island could be a go? Did you look it up? I'll post the links to the pics I found on here, so if anyone is interested in looking they can. Thank you, Shadow's Madre, for posting that location. I think we will take Mocha there sometime even if Lab fest isn't held there.
Here are the links to the pics I found. Enjoy!

MISS LISA 08-16-2004, 01:06 PM Can't really gee very much in those pics.. but from what I CAN see, it looks great.. its up to everyone! My one other concern is.. I have 3 dogs, but only 2 of us will be traveling.. is there that whole one person per dog thing?
11th and 12th works for me.. anyone think there will be any traveling issues/issues at the park due to the whole Sept 11th anniversary?
Shadow's Madre 08-16-2004, 04:19 PM I don't think anyone should have any problems with it being Sept 11. If you guys want I can go to Fiesta Island early Sat morning and reserve a spot for us. Are we going to potluck food or will it be bring your own??? Also I volunteer with Lab Rescuers of San Diego so (if it is all right with everyone else) I could let them know and if they want to come out with their Labs...that way we would have a bigger turnout... I think Fiesta Island will be great!!! Allison
LabMommy 08-16-2004, 04:21 PM Allison, that would be a great idea! The more the merrier! Not to mention, it may be a great adoption op!!!
Moni and Mocha
MISS LISA 08-16-2004, 04:30 PM I agree! That would be fantastic.. and even better that you can get their early! :D Is this a leash park?
How does Sept 11th at Fiesta Island sound for everyone??
Shadow's Madre 08-16-2004, 04:45 PM Sounds Great!!! Dogs are allowed off leash at Fiesta Island!!! I guess now we need to get the word out to all the other CA/AZ/NV people on the board and let them know about Lab Fest at Fiesta Island on Sept 11 and 12th... Let me know if you guys have any other ideas... allison
LabMommy 08-16-2004, 04:48 PM Yippee!! Date and time set! I am so excited! I can't wait to meet everyone! I meant to ask, are human kids okay, too? Because there is no way I'll be able to con my husband into NOT coming! He's as excited about having a Lab Fest as I am!!
So...how many board people does it look like are coming? I actually have a neighborhood friend who may be interested in coming, too! What fun!!
Moni and Mocha
MISS LISA 08-16-2004, 04:56 PM Is it okay if we set that tentatively? Lets give everyone about a week or so to chime in and say if the 11th or the 18th.. just to be safe... cause what if more people can come on the 18th.. or vice versa.. I think we should just give it about a week to let everyone see this and give their opinion.. I think its pretty much decided on a place.. this Fiesta Island - It will be good to get their early and it sounds great for the dogs. Even tho they dont have to be on a leash, mine probably will.. at least Kali and Heidi, because when they start running around (especially together) they tend to FORGET that they are suppost to listen to me -
:D
So far sounds great tho.. also sounds great that you are going to have that volunteer group there!!
MISS LISA 08-16-2004, 04:58 PM Oh, and I forgot to respond to that other part.. the human kids are MORE than welcome too!!! :D
It is going to be a blast!!!
Shadow's Madre 08-16-2004, 07:48 PM Yeah my husband and our 2 kids will be there. They are 3 1/2 and 16 months. Hope we have a great turnout!!! allison
Lucy's Mum 08-16-2004, 10:55 PM We are in! This will be great fun. We live in Newport Beach. I too volunteer with the Southern California Labrador Retriever Rescue and will invite them as soon as there is a firm date.
LabMommy 08-17-2004, 01:02 PM Lisa, would it be easier to start a new post with the tentative date and place listed? That way people won't have to scroll through all the posts and try and see what we are planning.
Let me know if you want me to post a new one with the info, or you can do it if you like. I just didn't want to since you started this post.
Thanks!
Moni and Mocha
MISS LISA 08-17-2004, 01:20 PM I posted one in Gen Chat.. (More people see it there.. ) I will bump it up again... Maybe we should put a link in our signatures coming to this link.. so they can respond.. Whaddya think?
I just dont want to start too many threads in this section and fill it all up with the same stuff.... know what I mean :D
