I'm a newbie and posted this in the Welcome Wagon area, but it's probably more appropriate here.

Hello everyone. My name's Amy and I've got a 3-year-old Lab/Aussie mix named Molly. She's a beauty, self blue merle. I found her as a stray when she was about three months old.

My question is this: She doesn't like to eat out of her bowl. She noses her dry dog food onto the floor and then eats it very delicately one piece at a time, often at some distance from the bowl. I was just wondering if this is characteristic of Labradors or does this just sound like some behavioral quirk.

Thanks.

I haven't seen that before, but it doesn't sound like a problem. If a piece of my lab's food got out of the bowl, he'd catch and swallow it before it hit the floor.

The impression I get is that most labs are gobblers!

Hi there,

We had that problem years ago with one of our girls. It all boiled down to the size of her food bowl...too small for her wide Labby nose.

What size bowl are you using for your girl?

But then again, her eating behavior might be an Aussie thing???

Thanks for the replies everyone. I don't think her food bowl is too small for her. I'm not worried about her eating habits, she has a lot of energy (!!!!), has always been healthy and has a very soft coat. I was just curious.
