This poor boy is just pitiful. He has the sweetest disposition and is one of the kindest dogs I have ever come across. He has cuts on his head where another dog has not been so kind to him and he often does not get to eat much here in the shelter because his kind manner quickly gets over run by agressive dogs. He needs someone who appreciates his gentleness and would love him. He deserves a second chance in life.

Just went on their website Etowah Valley Humane Society #770-383-3338 info@etowahvalleyhumane.org has an application for rescue groups, which states - If you are an out of state rescue, please attach the paperwork that your state requires to operate your rescue or shelter. http://www.etowahvalleyhumane.org/rescue application . Hope this will help.

The application link doesn't work, but I have been burned from pulling out of state without a good solid contact nearby the shelter.

Not to mention, we are a bit full. If there is anyone nearby that would want to foster him for a few weeks, I'd be willing to take him after that.

He's got such a sweet face.

click on my link then click on www.etowahvalley (http://www.etowahvalley), then on apply for a pet now, then click on rescue application, just in case you want to read. I will try and post some Ga. contacts. Just doing to help anyone who may be interested, as I only crosspost and do not belong to any shelter or rescue.

Will they adopt out of state? I live in Gainesville, Florida. I am interested in both dogs, especially the chocolate lab.

Depending on how far this is from me, I may need some help with transport.

Thanks

I think there is a link to their site or e-mail address. I don't see why not - it doesn't say they won't adopt out of state.

If you are interested in these Labs...(they are both beautiful and so sweet looking), you may want to send a PM to Alex (azawinsky) on this board. He adopted a very sweet chocolate Lab from this shelter last year and he can probably tell you what the procedure is...actually, I think he drove to GA to get him. They always have beautiful Labs here at this shelter.

I hope and pray these two are saved...there is just something about them both that really calls out...they want to be saved...:( :(

I completed an online application for both dogs and submitted it. I also emailed the shelter. There wasn't anything that said they did not adopt out of state. I hope this works out. They are precious.

I have been reading the website and found nothing saying they would not adopt out of state. They also have application for out of state rescues to fill out. The Etowah Valley Humane Society is a non-profit organization working inconjunction with Bartow County Animal Control. Their name use to be Bartow Humane, But changed to Etowah Valley Humane Society. I have emailed to find out if they would adopt out of state for everyone. Also emailed some people to see if they would pull for someone who wanted to adopt or a rescue, just in case. The dogs are all nice looking dogs. Good Luck and let you know any answers I get.

I got an email back from one of those people, but they are in CA just helping shelters in GA. She doesn't usually pull from that shelter, but said she would put her name out there if we have someone to physically get them.

Which is what we need. I dont mind putting my name and applying, but don't have anyone physically there to go get him and fly him here.

With the others we are trying to save in New Orleans.. I'm going to have to put this guy on hold for right now, since we physically have help (Kim, shaqpuppy) in New Orleans to pull and ship the ones we are stepping up for. :(

I hope these two get pulled or adopted.

Have just spoken with Montell, his # is 770-229-5811, Leading Edge Kennels , he can pull from area shelters nearby, board dogs and vet, ask him about transport infor also.

Gave me names & numbers to give people to help with Cartersville area such as for Etowah Valley Humane, and if you need dogs boarded and vetted after they pull see if they will bring to Leading Edge.

Dick Faddler #678-209-8010 and Holly #404-213-9435, Montell said they pull and can give info on transport. I will follow up with anyone else I find.

This is so sad, the black boy calls out to me too. Its double sad because he has the personality that I'm looking for but I'm not ready for a lab. I want to try to move this year, but I can't seem to land a job. The vet's office that opened in the summer here aren't hiring so its a slow process. If I can get a grant and open my store I will be able to pull this year.

I can contact LRRoF and see if they can help out. I will let you know if I recieve a reply back from them or not.

More information to help Dick (someone gave me a different last name) either Stadler or Faddler?, is a transporter his email address is rooster3@mindspring.com . Phone number 678-209-8010. Another transporter is Jo: her phone numbers are (home) 770-507-9046 and (cell) 770-634-6704. Have a name of a women who has a Ga license that will work with rescue groups, that she gets all the needed information required. Hope that helps, but please ask and I will try and find out.

I put in an application for both dogs. When I emailed the facility, this is the response I got back:

"Thank you for your application. The pet you have applied for is currently at the Bartow County Animal Control shelter. Unfortunately at this time we are unable to tell you more about him/her other than what’s on the website. This pet will be transferred to our facility in next few days to be quarantined and to begin medical attention (shots, deworming, alter, etc). At that point we will be able to tell you more about him/her and give you better idea when he/she can go home. Please keep in mind the whole process might take up to 10-14 days. However we can not promise for sure if this pet will become available. There is always a slight chance he/she can be reclaimed by the owners while at Animal Control or may become too ill (that’s the reason why we quarantine).

Since this pet will be transferred and on hold for you it’s very important for you to let us know if you change your mind or decide not to adopt him/her."

I emailed her back and told her I was interested in both dogs, however, I really need to know if they are good with children. I have 2 young/small children, ages 4 years (little girl) and 8 year old (son). It is important that the children are safe with the dogs.

I emailed her yesterday to get an update, however, I have not received a reply.

I have addressed your issue before. Your need for a dog that is CALM and SAFE with children is perfectly understandable. Only YOU, however, can determine whether a dog meets your definition of calm and safe. Many labs are energetic; many are large; they all jump on children unless taught not to. Because you had your Rott euthanized for aggression toward your daughter, it is that much more important for you to make the assessment. Go see the dogs, watch the dogs with your children. If you adopt locally and it is not a good match, the dog can be returned.

Personally, when something is very very important to me, I want be involved in the decision making. If I need a calm dog safe around small children, there is NO way I would let anyone make that assessment FOR me. I might like to hear what others thought, but I would have to meet the dog and make an assessment myself. I would see that as a responsibility I owed my children and that I owed the dog.

You have indicated you have limited ability to travel because of your children and at least one has been diagnosed as autistic. I do not understand how you would be able to drive a dog back to a shelter that is many states away if it not a good match.

There are so many labs in FL; there are so many dogs in FL that need good homes, why aren't you looking locally so that you have the support you need and the ability to assess the dog yourself??

Susan

I am working with the lab rescue of florida. I will no longer work with this forum. I do need a good match.

My rottie (who I adopted at age 4 years and only owned 4 months) was classified as a dangerous dog by the animal shelter. I tried to get the 2 former owners (who are 2 hours away) to take him back, they wouldn't. I tried a rottie rescue group, they declined because he was a "bite" dog. The local humane society and rescue groups do not take owner surrenders and do not take "bite" dogs. I had no choice but to take him to the shelter. They classified him as a dangerous animal. I went back and spoke with the man in charge of adoptions and explained that the dog was not a dog to be with children. He would be great in a home with 1-2 adults and absolutely no children. The animal shelter said he had an unstable temperament and therefore was a very dangerous dog.

I would think that this situation would be understandable. My rottie was excellent with me, just not my 4 year old. I didn't haphazardly drop him off at the shelter. It broke my heart. I still miss him. My daughter had stitches in her face, which are still healing.

I extensively emailed the woman I adopted my rottie from. She had 5 children, told me her 2 year climbed all over the dog and he never did anything. This was obviously not true. I met the dog. He was very sweet. I took him home and he was great. The longer I owned him, the more I started to see an unstable temperament with my 4 year old. He knew I was alpha.

I had a trainer come in on a daily basis to work with the dog and my children. She was the one who finally said, you have done all you can do, you need to take him to the shelter.

I don't take my responsibility as a dog owner lightly. I love my pets.

I am working on dogs that are local. There are many labs in florida that need homes. I will give a very good home to one.

Good luck.
