We feed our little guy Solid Gold Wolf Cub which is the large breed puppy formula. We love it and are having no problems. Bailey just turned seven months. Should we be thinking about weening him off puppy food soon??

What an adorable dog!!! We feed solid gold as well, but never used the puppy food. We switched our dog to solid gold mmillennia at 6 months and she made the switch just fine.
Your 7 month old would do fine switching to adult food...just make the switch very gradually. Are you planning on staying on solid gold?

Don't have an answer for you as we are not there yet, but your dog really is beautiful. I fall more in love with the chocolates every day.

Great! Solid Gold was the only thing that made my dog healthy. I think if you switch him to the Wolfking bison food, your dog would take the switch quite easily because the ingredients are extremely similar. I don't think you'll have a problem. good luck! :)

What about a dog that has never been on puppy food? Denali is 14 weeks old now. Breeder was giving him wellness adult duck/rice, which we continued, not knowing any better. He seems fine on it (gaining weight appropriately, etc), but should we be switching him from it? Vet said "well, lab puppies should eat adult food until 14 or 15 months old" but others above have switched much earlier. Is it worth switching only to switch back soon? (repeated question from another thread which didn't get any answers!)

I was under the impression puppies should eat puppy food until they have reached their full height, so for a lab around 14-18 months. Puppies are still growing a lot even at 7 months, and I imagine they need all the nutrition they can get.

My vet told me to keep my lab Scooter on puppy chow for large breeds intil about 18 months or so. Brought him in for a check up at 18 months and the vet said start to move to an adult dog food. he told me it has something to do with the growth of the bones that the puppy chow for large breeds slows something down in the growth area that should not grow to fast. I ain't to tecky on what he said just that it has to do with the joint growth. Btw Scooter is about 73lbs on the puppy stuff and has no problems.
