Ok so Jubilee is off her old food and on Canidae entirely (she was switched over slowly and had been 75%/25% for about four days and has been 100% for about three days). I have noticed in the last few days she has been itchy (she is generally not an itchy dog) and has had more eye boogies than usual. I am nervous but not trying to flinch right now. Could it be possible to detox from a poor food to a better food although it is still kibble? How long should I wait to determine if this is a side effect of the food for her? She loves it and is eating well and has normal stool. She is on flea preventative so she isn't itching from fleas (they don't seem to like her much anyway...).

By any chance have you been keeping track of the allergy/pollen/hayfever levels in the area during this time? Being springtime, could this be coincidental seasonal allergies, or has she never suffered from those before?

hmmm that is possible...This area is well known for it's terrible pollen...it even has affected me...good thought. We are moving Thursday so...

It sounds to me like your pup might be allergic to something in the food. Since you're moving in a couple days, hopefully environmental allergies could be ruled out soon?

Yea...I can't imagine what it could be in this food especially since we have moved up the kibble ladder considerably...sigh

Lamar was having some issues when we first started him on Canidae and it took him about a 6-8 weeks to get to where he was doing 100% better. In Lamar's case, though, he had a bunch of issues going on at the same time (coccidia, brought home too early at 6 weeks, eating Pedigree food at first, etc.) and I think it took awhile for everything to die down. He's doing fantastic on Canidae now. I would wait AT LEAST a month and wait until you move before you make any decisions. I agree that the pollen is TERRIBLE. It is causing Lamar to have eye boogies, too.

We had a similar issue with Scout. We switched her over to a new food in the dead of winter, and her coat was itchy and dry for a bit. We waited a month or so, and we started to see improvements.

I agree. If you're about to move, I'd try not to change anything else. Moving will be traumatic enough. Wait until you've settled in a bit at the new place and reevaluate.
My dogs (and humans) have been having a terrible allergy year too.

Yea I think I will just stick with it. I was planning on it anyway but just wanted to see what you all thought. She will be fine with the move. We are moving back to Gainesville into the house she grew up in with the dogs she loves. We go there once a month so it should be uneventful. Now that I am thinking about it she has had "itchy" periods in the past in gville I just can't remember when they were as they were mild like this and went away uneventful. This just happens to coincide with a food switch but I think you all might be on to something. Thanks!
