View Full Version : Therapy Dog Classes-Tampa Bay?

I think Maggie is a really good candidate for a therapy dog, with a little work. She's super sweet and bomb-proof. She knows basic obedience. After she adjusts to her new routine, I'd like to get her started in a class.

I live in Dunedin, just west of Tampa, and I know Upper Suncoast Dog Training Club used to, a few years back when I was going to agility classes there with my rat terrier. They don't appear to anymore.

Anyone know of how I can find some? Or do most of you just work on your own and await testing? I know the CGC test pretty well, but beyond that, what do I need to emphasize with her?

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the board.

Ask your vet about programs that offer training and screening for Therapy dogs.

Be sure to expose Maggie to all kinds of surroundings like the front of the grocery store where people come and go, possibly the bank, if your bank allows dogs to come in, even some Senior Assisted living homes might allow dogs to come in if they're in training.

Good luck with Maggie, and please let us know how she does.

How cool! I believe there are a few therapy dogs on this board so hopefully they will see this thread and give you some advice! Good luck!
