I got a call from a woman in Kansas who says a local shelter has two purebred chocolate males in desperate need of rescue. I have no information for any Lab rescue in that State.

Anywhere here do rescue there, or know of someone that does? You know those dogs must be something else for her to reach out to me all they way in Utah.

Thanks for spreading the word, I'll get more information.

Did you look up Labrador Retriever Rescue on Internet. If there is not one for Kansas, is there one in a nearby state?

Try Dani or Ace's Camille on here. They do rescue and may know of someone.

The breed parent club is not showing me any rescues in KS. Ask Abbeygirl if she knows of anyone.

Barbi,

I am not aware of any lab rescues in Kansas and I know I have not heard of one in my part of the state (Wichita is in southeast Kansas). When I have fostered labs, it has always been for an out of state rescue.

There is PALS; it is all breed rescue, both canine and feline, and I think there is a rat or hamster on its adoption page. PALS is top quality and relies on carefully screened foster homes to care for animals up for adoption. I think PALS pulls almost exclusively from the high-kill Wichita Animal Shelter; will sometimes help based on a vet reference; helped with at least one Katrina dog; and, rarely accepts OS. Last I knew, PALS will not adopt out of state. (I realize some of this info is more than you needed to know.)

Here is PALS' website.

Where are the dogs? In the Kansas City area, there is an animal adoption/sanctuary rescue that I think specializes in Newfs and other giants, but does not limit itself to one breed. It is called Autumn Acres, and it might be in MO (KS City sprawls into both states, KS and MO). I do not know the person who runs it, Donna, but I was asked to check on her rescue once. She is highly regarded would sum it up.
