Hello all,

We just got our first lab yesterday and we are having a blast. We have one major issue and aren't sure what to do. We got our dog from an excellent breeder in our area. We got food from the breeder - Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul ADULT. We talked to our breeder and this is the food she uses for all of her dogs.

When we brought him home, he threw up twice (breakfast), then threw up again after lunch. We had no issues with his dinner or breakfast this morning. However, my wife just called me and said he threw up all over the house - got his bed and our carpet. I thought the first day was the car trip or nerves or a combo of both, but today???? Anybody have any suggestions or ideas?

I would call the breeder and see if she had any issue with him vomiting at meal time. If not, and this is the food that she was feeding him, then it could be your water. Try giving him bottled water. If this doesn't work, then I would suggest calling your vet.

First trip to the vet is Thurday and this will be on of the first questions.

Young puppies dehydrate very quickly from vomiting to often, and having diarrhea too much. You need to replenish his fluid loss. With a syringe force feed him a little lukewarm sugar water every 1/2 hour.

I would call the vet today and tell them what's going on. They'll have a special mild canned food diet for Dune until his tummy settles down again.

Was the breeder feeding him ADULT food, too?

From the Chicken Soup website: (http://www.chickensoupforthepetloverssoul.com/formulasnew.html#AdultDog)
Animal feeding tests using Association of American Feed Control Officials procedures substantiate that Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul™ Adult Dog Formula provides complete and balanced nutrition for the maintenance of adult dogs.I don't want to turn this into yet another discussion of which food is best, is AAFCO trustworthy, etc. I just think there are better options out there for your puppy. Be sure to ask your vet...

Yes - puppies dehydrate so quickly - call your vet immediately. It could just be nerves, but in the meantime your puppy is losing lots of fluid.
