Hi. I am not in Toronto, but about and hour from Scarborough and we (GTA area peeps) usually set up a play date a few times a year.

We met at a Park in Mississauga before and I am sure we can set something up again.

I know that we have more memebers in the GTA now.

Hi, I'm too far west for regular playdates but we'll definitely try to organize a couple of labfests this summer. We try to pick a location that's easy to get to, plenty of parking and as central as possible for at least one of the labfests.

Where is Courtice? Towards Peterborough?

Yup Courtice is the next town east of Oshawa (I technically live on the boarder).

Its about 45 mins away from PTBO just bordering on the east side of the' 'Shwa (Oshawa)

Scout's Honour, my folks live in a subdivision off of townline rd. that's on the eastern border of the Harmony Creek dog park. Have you ever been there (to the dog park)?

No I haven't yet. What do you know of it or think about it? I would love to try it out.

Well I took Roscoe for a walk to the dogpark on Sunday. I didn't let him go in the off-leash part but there is a nice path to walk on, and we walked down to a creek.

The off-leash part is not completely enclosed. It is mostly fenced, but there is an open entrance to it, where the dogs could run out of if they wanted. It was particularly quiet on Sunday afternoon, just one woman walking a pug there.

I think I would like to take him back there with his flexi-lead so he can roam around some more than he could with the 6' nylon lead he was on.

I am in Richmond Hill. I have a 4 month old female pup..but I find labs will play with any other dog..just find an uninhabited schoolyard or park around 7-8 pm when the kids are off to bed and you will meet all the other dogwalkers..next thing you are off to the races.

Pick a park, pick a date and we will be there. (as long as we are not at a dog show)

There are no parks in my area, but I do know that there are more in the Oshawa to TO area.

We had talked about Darlington at some point, has anyone been there?

So the last couple of weeks we have been introducing Roscoe to the dog park, and he has been doing awesome. He played with a German Shepherd puppy tonight, and had a grand ole time.

http://www.harmonydogpark.ca/index.htm

I think that the dog park in Oshawa would be a good place for a labfest. There are lots of creeks, and a pond for the labbies to play in, and also a big open field to play fetch and tumble about.

So that's my nomination for a Labfest...do people want to suggest any weekends that they are available?

Weekend of June 7 & 8 and 21 and 22 are out for me, but other than that....

I'd happily meet up for a playdate with any local Durham people too.

I am not available July 12/13 or July 27/28 as I will be away at dog shows.

Other weekends seem ok for me.

I will be at the Orono Fairgrounds with Delta doing Rally O on June 14 if anyone wants to meet up there. I don't know what time yet.

Took Scout to the park this weekend (same one in Oshawa) and it's gorgeous there. I'd be in for a meet up as well, doesn't matter what weekend necessarily as I live fairly close to it.

Breezeline are the fairgrounds in Orono the ones you can see from the 115? I'd love to watch some Rally and meet up.

Yes, they are the ones we will be at next Saturday.

I will let you know what times when I get my info from the show secretary, hopefully early next week.

Hehe, Roscoe was there on Saturday....

Julie, Kristy and I would be interested in meeting up at Orono as well (and cheering on Delta) :p

Algonquin how often are you at the park? We have gone a few times this week (ok 3...with a 4th trip planned for Sunday) and are experimenting with offleash. Ok we drop the leash but I'm still a nervous mom!! She's been doing great and has met a lot of great dogs so far.

We go there at least once a week. Last time was on Saturday morning.

Maybe we could plan something with your Scout, Superjake, and Roscoe this upcoming weekend?

Not sure if this was suggested here, but Should we all try to get together soon? Maybe this Sunday? or even at the Dog Days of Scugog on Saturday?

Roscoe, Mike (algonquin) and I are planning DDOS for saturday morning. Not too early though, as it starts at 9am. Hopefully the rain/storm happens in the night before.

If it's raining I doubt we will make it up that early, but if it's not we can probably be up there around 10 or 11.

Shawn Scout & I will be up there probably around 10 or so. Look for a little brown dog wearing a black with pink skulls 3DD collar :D and a black gentle leader because in this situation she'll definitely need it! I can guarantee we'll be around the dock diving either at 10 if we make it for then or 12.

Went and watched, considered signing her up but at 11:30 the only available wave was at 4 so decided against it. Next year though my little brown dog will make her debut :D It was a tonne of fun to watch, I cannot wait to try it.

We also went to watch the dock diving. Roscoe was intently focused on the retrieval toy that that handlers threw into the water for their dog diving dogs, and he wanted to go get it. :D We asked how old the dogs had to be to enter, and someone told us 9 months, so we'll have to try next year too. (but we did go to a friend's house on Lake Scugog afterwards, and he got to all the dock jumping he wanted to there)

However, we did go check out the Rally-O ring, and we got to do a fun run through the course with Joan Reid (judge). Roscoe did very well, and I would like to think he impressed Joan for being a 6 month old. He must have been very excited too, because he promptly peed a few moments after completing the course. :o:

We had a great time and it was great to meet you Scouts_Honour! :thumb4:

Not only Roscoe loved dock diving at our friends house, he LOVED swimming around to some great distances to retrieve his mommy :)

Also, I did take some pictures of Roscoe and his daddy going through the Rally-o course, so hopefully some of them turned out and we will be able to post them soon.

Nice meeting you briefly Scouts_honour...

That is great that you were able to meet up and go through the rally-o ring.

I told you that it was not that hard and would be lots of fun :thumb4:

It was nice to meet you guys and Roscoe too!

I wish I could get Scout to even jump off the dock - she'll swim once she's in but she's not huge on the jumping off. Hopefully soon.

Hi - I'm new to this forum and found this thread from searching local labrador meets/playtime.

I'm interested to bring my 5 month old lab out sometime too. Do you guys do this often?

Thanks!

I know that Algonquin and Pam and Brandy will be there and I am sure a few others as well.

I already had entered Beckham in a dog show in Burlington that day at the Equstrian Centre so I cannot attend.

Just wondering since there seems to be so many GTA labs out there... has anyone been to Greenwood Conservation Park in Ajax? I'm in Markham and just found it online. There is supposed to be an off-leash doggie area there.

I'd like to know if it's fenced, how big the area is, the terrain and of course if there's water for the pup to swim in. The terrain is important because I'd probably be bringing my kids too and they're 3, 5 and 7. If it's a big place, I'd consider bringing my wagon for the kids.

Anyway, I'll probably drive by this weekend and check it out.

So, I ended up visiting Greenwood Conservation Area's off-leash dog park and it seemed quite large. I was limited to where I could go because I did bring my 3 kids and a wagon to pull my youngest one in.

One nice feature is that it's really close to Markham.

Algonquin - I looked at Harmony Creek's off-leash park website and it looks really nice. Do you need to pay or register to use the park?

I don't think you need to pay to use the park.

However, I would avoid going there right now. There seems to be an outbreak of kennel cough that is going around to the dogs that go to the park for the past month or so. We haven't took Roscoe there for about 6 weeks.
