I started switching/transitioning Abby to the Bison/Venison the other day and I am noticing the horrible smell! I don't want to "down" the food but is this normal? It's like a very strong immonia in her urine and her stools are very strong- even outside from 15 feet away. I had her on Nutro Large Breed Lamb/Rice and she pooped alot but I never encountered this odor.
The TOTW has 32% protein which I liked, but if it's going to keep things smelling like this I might switch. I noticed that the store also carried Cal Nat. and Innova but it was on the pricier side. The store owner said the TOTW would be a step up from the Nutro anyway. But the smell... Has Anyone else ever experienced this on this food?

My guess is that it's not the TOTW formula specifically. Abby's gut flora is trying to adjust to a big change: different meat protein, no grains, new carbohydrate of potato, etc. This would be true of many formulas you might try. Her body is ridding itself of the old food's filler ingredients, etc. as it tries to digest new ingredients.

Take the transition very slowly over 10 days. Some people find it helpful to give a supplement when transitioning to a new food. I've used plain low fat yogurt with active cultures. There are lots of specific dog products on the markets that provide prebiotic enzymes which may help. Others on this board probably can give specific suggestions.

If after a month you still have the same problem, then maybe the formula just doesn't agree with Abbey and you'll want to try something else.

We just switched to TOTW bison and have had a couple of dog f---s but that is it, his poops have been a total change from his last food. Were happy so far.

I had a sample bag pf TOTW and it also smelled really bad...Toby turned his nose from it and refused to eat it...:(

I am sorry to say...I do not trust Diamond products.

its interesting because I switched my cats to TOTW and was pleasantly surprised at the LACK of odor their litter box has now.

Sounds like a plan.
Thanks all for your input

I never had that problem with the prairie totw formula. I agree with sticking with it for a little while after the adjustment period.

Mine eat the Bison formula and love it. I have a fenced yard so not close by when they "go" but I haven't noticed any bad odors and I think the food smells kinda good. Like grilled meat. i will say they have much LESS gas on TOTW than on any other food I've tried so far.
