Harley has recently developed food allergies. We think to either wheat or soy. Since we are in a training class we need to have treats for her but most have either one of those two things in them. I am wondering if anyone has any sugestions for treats that dont have wheat or soy in them. Our trainer sugested turkey hot dogs.... but I really dont want her eating hot dogs. Maybe a recipe or something? She wont eat anything that doesnt taste or smell like meat so fruit or veggies are out. We dont want to use her kibble as a treat either. Thanks in advance for sugestions.

how 'bout some plain cooked meat? i dont like feeding homer doggy treats (and i wont feed him hotdogs either!) so for class we use either chopped cooked unseasoned chicken or i buy freeze dried liver treats, which are just dried liver, no other ingredients. if you have a trader joes, sometimes they have dried lamb lungs, these work great chopped up into chunks. i have also heard of using chunks of cheese.

Raw baby carrots, or string cheese....cut up into small pieces...

We have the same problems with Duncan. Zukes all natural salmon treats are great for training...they are small, and soft. We also use string cheese and sometimes grilled chicken with a small amount of garlic powder. I did find, however, I had to be very careful only to give chicken for major accomplishments. He can have chicken, just in small amounts.

cheese was a HUGE Motivator for Hanford when he was in his training class.

Hey thanks everyone for the sugestions. I'm sorry I didnt check the other threads yesterday before posting. I didnt see the other thread that talked about training treats. Forgive me it was a looong weekend! Thanks again though. We gave Harley a raw carrot last night when we were experimenting with new things and she loved it! I was thinking of sprinkling them with beef boulion powder since she loves beef flavors so much.
