View Full Version : Transport Issues for Chocolate Boy in GA

I spoke with Dani and it looks as if our transport has fallen through for this boy. I am looking to see if there is anyone in GA that can pick him up from the Animal Hospital in Dalton, GA and drive him north about an hour or so. This way I won't be hard pressed to make it there by the time the Animal Hospital closes.

The problem I have is that I don't know if the Animal Hospital will keep him another day. If they can then it would be awesome and I will make an easy trip down south. If not then I desperately need some help.

Let me know thanks.

I am not sure yet, but I will be calling tomorrow to find out. I just did a map quest and its about a 10 hour drive. At the latest I would have to leave at 8am to be at the Animal Hospital.

Wish I could help; I would gladly drive 10+ hours to get this little boy to you. Anxiously await good news on this transport. If there is anything else I can do let me know.

Okay here is the deal:

I am meeting Dani's friends on I75 around Knoxville TN. This will cut about 3 hours off the trip 1 way and it will be a blessing. So I am leaving within the next 30 minutes.

Say prayers.

Be safe Alex...I am sorry about this crazy cluster of deal...it souldn't have been this hard.

I think I am leaving this afternoon too. I am real upset about my friends' parents judging me and why I am getting these puppies from Kim. Actually...been crying all morning...Dawn and her whole family just left for the coast and I think that after I pick up the pups in Hattiesburg from Kim, I am going to just keep driving...and at least get part way to Michigan tonight.

Dani...call me when you get a chance. I too have been judged and condemned by the southern mentality for thinking animals are worth fighting for and saving.

Alex, just read this now, so you are well on your way to pick up the chocolate lab boy.

Godspeed to you and the lab boy, and Dani and crew.

Dani, I know how it hurts when you are criticized unjustly. It seems to happen to all of us involved in animal rescue, and I too have been in tears due to criticism.

You know what you are doing is right, and you do a good job.

Sometimes people who do not love animals as much as us think what we do is crazy, and even other rescue people have been known to criticize us.

We have 2 beautiful Ragdoll kittens here at our house, saved from a California shelter. We had them flown here, picked them up at Vancouver airport. Some may call us crazy for that. I fell in love with the picture of the seal point rag doll girl that I saw at petfinder, and thought I would adopt her for my 25 yr old neice. My sister (her landlady) said "no cats" so that was the end of that idea, so I adopted her, and named her Cali.I adopted out the other kitten to a wonderful family. The lady who transported them to L.A. airport for me also transported their sibling from the same shelter, to a rescue friend of hers in Long Beach CA. Another sibling didn't make it, euthanized due to overpopulation of cats at the shelter :(
My brother tried to adopt a husky pup here in Vancouver BC. But because his application said there will sometimes be nobody home for up to a maximum of 3 hrs, they would not adopt to him. So, we adopted a yellow lab/husky pup from Memphis Animal Shelter, had him flown here.
Also, a lab board member who lives in North Vancouver BC adopted a black lab from a US kill shelter. (I did the home check for LOLIN)
Some people on the BC Pet Rescue Message Board got upset with rescue people who bring in dogs from US kill shelters, because they said dogs in BC need out of shelters. The moderators of the board had to make a separate section for "Rescue outside of BC" to prevent the fighting that was going on.

Very sad, and very petty, in my opinion.... the main thing is that the animals are saved, and whether they are rescued / adopted by someone from out of state, or from someone in Canada, is irrelevant. A life is a life !!!

Lordy girl dont let any one get you down! I have had so many people to say really mean stuff about what I do for the animals! My own mother told everyone at church that I have gone to the dogs! She said she was teasing me but who knows. I have people to roll their eyes when I talk about it. I just dont care! I have a life but I love to do this also. Going to the dogs is alot better than going to some other places hua?

Prior to meeting Bennett my DH used to get upset when people would spend money rescuing animals because he said there are so many humans doing with out and the money should go to them, after getting Bennett his tune has changed just a little bit.

Dani, don't know if you saw the movie this came from, but I love it. I think it pertains to your situation and may help you.
