hey! i am looking for a dry, grain free venison formula for Cash. taste of the wild wont do because of the flat kibble the little bugger wont eat it. natural balance has flat kibble too!!! why are all the venison foods flat kibble??? any other suggestions? anyway he has cancer so it needs to be high protein and fat..thanks for any help.

The only grain free venison food I can think of is Ziwi Peak. It's freeze dried raw and very expensive.

Another thought... and no, this isn't grain free, is Nature's Logic. It's gluten free and uses one grain and the only grain is listed once.
Check it out: http://www.natureslogic.com/products/dp_dry_ven.html

It's pretty high in protein with moderate fat levels.

I thought TimberWolf Organics had a Venison but I think I'm wrong. I know Nature's Variety has Venison but it's not grain free. I can't think of anything else.

It needs to be low carb. Carbs feed cancer. Like TOTW or Natural Balance wouldn't be your best bet because although they're both grain free, they're relatively high in carbs compared to something like EVO.

I would use EVO canned... http://www.evopet.com/products/default.asp?id=1498

And mix it with EVO RF dry or EVO Red meat Sm bites..

I feed Ziwi Peak to Bailey (great food but pricy). I rotate between the venison formula and the lamb formula. She doesn't have cancer but when I was in the feed store a few weeks ago a lady was purchasing for her golden with cancer. I was going to ask her about why she chose Ziwi it but didn't feel it was appropriate at the time.

i am using evo cans but am confused at how many cans to give him in 1 day. according to the label its a ridiculus amount. for some reason the holistic vet said NO KIBBLE.. only wet. mabye she doesnt relize that evo has no carbs. he is missing his kibble. i was giving him the chicken version (kibble) and mixing in the cans along with homecooked meat and she said no chicken or fish. stick with venison, or beef, buffalo...chicken is no good for cancer she said. so i took him off the kibble but feel better about giving him some kibble i may buy the evo red meat but he is sensitive to beef. aarrgghhh this is nervewracking! has anyone ever heard of no kibble for cancer..i think because its processed more..not sure??? i need to ask more questions when i go to see her but i am always so frazzled with all the question and info..i forget!

Doesn't the fat content of ziwipeak venision seem high? Although I'm not sure what DM means. I know I thought about feeding it to mine at one point and the girl at the petshop said she had to take her sheperd off it because he started gaining weight.

Guaranteed Analysis - Protein (min.) 34% (40%DM), Ash (max.) 8% (9.5%DM), Fat (min.) 26% (30.5%DM), Fiber (max.) 1.6% (2.0%DM), Moisture (max.) 15% (85%DM), Calcium 2%, Phosphorus 1.1% (ratio 2:1)

It it high but I feed during summer because Bailey is so active during these times. Bailey has put on some more muscle eating Ziwi and it's the first food she will actually chew.

It's a plus too that Ziwi has labs! :p:

DM is dry matter.
