First I want to say I am a customer of Eagle pack only I do not work for company but would like to share my experience visiting Eagle Pack plant.
I am from Ohio, we are visiting Michigan for the weekend so prior to the three of us leaving (DH,myself and RC) I e mailed Eagle Pack to see if we could stop since the plant is only 30 miles away from where we are staying. John Marsman emailed back , so we set up appointment for the May 22 .
Met with John Marsman and was impressed with all questions answered the company itself and their organization, they truly take their pet food seriously.
John took DH and myself on tour , we saw where the testing /lab area, they keep samples of runs of food for a year. We then went through warehouse area and then the plant itself and John explained how each step of the process worked from beginning to end . We also saw individual closed sacks of ingredients , peas (product of USA on sack) brewers yeast, tomato pomice ect ect .
I could go on for long time but will shorten this and say i am very impressed with company their product , ingredients used, cleanliness of plant and their staff and John Marsman for taking the time to talk to us and taking us around.
RC has been doing very well on the duck formula for a while now , and he seems to enjoy it very much.

That is very cool! I have heard many good things about EP, just haven't gotten around to trying it for my dogs or cat. It's nice to get such personal attention in this day and age when it's hard to even get a live person on the phone!

Eagle Pack lovers here http://www.websmileys.com/sm/fingers/fing32.gif I am very pleased with their products (our dogs eat the Salmon, Sardine & Anchovy formula) and we get frequent compliments on their coats body shape etc.

That's Awesome! I have spoken with John several times and exchanged emails. He has always been extremely helpful. I did not see his name on the contact list on the website and was afraid he was no longer there...glad to see I was wrong. My dogs have done very well on EP Holistic. It also appears that by looking at the website that Eagle Pack is going to market the regular Eagle Pack as Eagle Pack and the EP Holistic Select as just "Holistic Select" dropping the EP from the name in order to differentiate between the two.

Thanks for sharing such a great story and experience from one of the few names I trust in this business!!!!

I also noticed Johns name no longer on list, so was pleased to hear and then meet him. Also wanted to add to begin with my husband was just going along with me but after taking tour he was impressed.

Thanks so much for writing about your experience at the plant. I spoke with John several weeks ago and told him they should do like Natura and put a commerical on their website showing how wonderful their plant is also :) If you didn't know he has beautiful brittany spaniels that he breeds and shows :)

Thanks for sharing! It's nice to hear the good things about a company when there's been so much negative stuff lately.

I don't usually visit the diet and nutrition posts because my Thunder currently eats EP hollistic chicken and rice and is doing fabulous on it. He LOVES it and everyone comments on his shiny, beautiful coat. He also has a very, very sensitive tummy and this suits him just fine, no issues. I am happy to hear they run a great plant and it is clean and they actually do use vegetables and fruits in their dog food.

I visited this area of the board because we have a new yellow female labby pup named Skye who is now 6 months. She is on Eukaneuba (spelling?) large breed for puppies and I was thinking of switching her over to the EP so they are on the same food.

I left her on what the breeder was feeding her until she got settled into our home. We have had her a couple of months now and I didn't want to switch too many things at once on her, but we were thinking of a switch soon. I know switching foods can be tricky. It was tough when we changed Thunder. He had the runs for weeks and we did it super slow.

She does love her current food (The Euk) and the DH and I were going to leave her on it due to the lesser price per bag, but honestly it is only $1.00 cheaper than what we pay for the EP at our hollistic dog food store. I know the EP is a better food.

Does anyone know if they sell the Eagle pack online? I really love the food, but I feel like every time I go to purchase a new bag at the hollistic food store, the price is climbing. I know the economy is tough, but feeding two labbies isn't cheap! :)

It may end up being the same if I had it shipped.

Glad to hear your positive story. Thanks for sharing!

Here's one link. I bought it this way one time but had to order 3 bags to make the freight work. Might be different where you live.

:tup2::tup2: I am so very happy to see your post!

I am a firm believe in Eagle Pack, but never actually visited the plant.
I have spoken to John Marsman a few times by phone and also by email and always have been impressed with his knowledge and sincerity.

Eagle Pack is one of the few companies I trust.

Thank you for the tour information... Did they allow pictures ?

John Marsman is a great reason to trust the company.. He feeds it to his Champion dogs.. I hope he is not being pushed out... EP is now under Wellpet since the merger..... and they are looking for help....

To be honest I did not have camera , did not even think to take one with me on trip let alone ask beforehand.
Yes, Berwind owns both EP and Wellness , from what I gather it sounds like the sales with EP line and holistic line have really increased since recall of 07.
John had a brittany spaniel puppy in office the day we went (very cute), this weekend was going to be pup's first show.John's dogs are fed their food.
I did not get the impression he was getting pushed out, if anything he seems very involved . Sounds like they are cutting back some international to focus on domestic because of demand here .

The other site I know of is k9 cuisine which also has free shipping over 50.00 but after looking at pawchoice pricing , k9 cuisine is higher. So thank you for link since winter time I normally order due to 30 minute drive to closest store ( I live in a rural area)

Couple things I forgot to mention in my initial post I thought I would pass on:

The basic minerals and vitamins come from BASF and go to Trouw for mixing to make the premix.

The ingredients and formulas have not changed, the people formulating are the same ones that have done it since 1990 and before

I order mine from www.heartypet.com
sigh up for the mailings and you will get 10% off and 50% off shipping. I get it cheaper with the shipping than I pay locally.

Also, my local distributor informed me that EP bought out Wellness...just kept everything under the Wellpet name.

Great site, but I dont think EP owns wellness unless EP owns Berwind

Berwind an investment management company

http://www.berwind.com/overview.htm

EP and Wellness are owned by Berwind here is link with all companies owned by berwind

http://www.berwind.com/companies.htm

EP makes their kibble in same plant as they always have .

Wellness kibble is made same place as before also

What matters to me is how the company itself runs and managed , making a quality product and will answer questions openly and honestly. The holistic formula has worked well with RC so was glad to meet some of the people who have been at plant for awhile and are still there.
