I really would love to help out in my local area. I live in Cincinnati and would love to help with lab rescues. I was wondering if anybody from Cincinnati could give me suggestions. I would love to Volunteer and once Chloe (14 weeks right now) gets a few months older, we would love to foster a dog.

I work with LOLIN, there are many rescue organizations & most would LOVE to add a foster to their organization. You could always look up petfinder.org & enter your zipcode & click on the organization. It should take you to their page, that should lead you to if they need fosters. Here is the group I work with. http://www.lolin.org/ :)

There is also a Cincinnati Lab Rescue. It used to be Roncy's Labs.

(You are only about 2 hrs. from us) Also, Lin (2CoolLabs) lives in Milan, she volunteers for Love of Labs, too. HEY LIN!!!! :) I believe she was wanting some help down there.

Sonja Felix is a core member of labs 4 rescue which is based in Killingworth but stretches from New Orleans, Little Rock, Mobile Alabama up through Tennesee. Sonja is one of two Ohio contacts. Their website is at www.labs4rescue.com .
It is a great group - the southern gals are struggling in the LA, MS and AL areas as you can imagine. Lots of folks from the New England sections are helping with both cash, dogfood and clothing donation for .

I would say just do whatever feels right.

Sometimes its easiest to start volunteering for a transport here and there.

Eventually you'll start meeting people that do rescue, and as time goes on you'll meet a group of people that you like, whose cause you believe in, and you'll probably even make some really good friends. :)

The phone bills will skyrocket, the mileage on your car will be out of control.....:)

No, but seriously....With the internet, location of the group is only a small portion of the concern. There are so many groups out there doing so many different things. Find one that you believe in, with people that you love, and get your feet wet! Don't be afraid to do a little volunteering for two or three different groups first, its OK!

Rescue is an incredible thing. If I didn't need to worry about my bills and not work for the rest of my life, I would seriously just rescue. I placed a poodle/bichon mix girl in a home for seizure alert work about a month or so ago and she is doing WONDERFULLY....I saw her owner's mother this weekend and she gave me a hug with tears in her eyes and told me what a difference this dog was making already....and she had barely started her training but the BOND was making a difference. I saved a dog. And then I helped give a tool to a sick person to give them a more normal, healthy, productive life. What an awesome, awesome thing. Sure beats the bull**** I take at work...
