Lets get this thread going again. :)

Lisa - could you sticky this please?! Thanks!!

We are still shooting for Marymoore park right? Or was there another choice...I hadn't visited our Lab fest thread in awhile so Im just double checking and looking to repost our information!! ;)

Okay....so it's Sat, Aug 12th at Marymoore. Did we decide a time? Just not too early in case some of us are a little hungover. :cheers2:

I have gas BBQ but not sure it will fit in extra cab since I can't put in back of my truck. I will check with DH when he gets back in town sometime Thursday this week. If I could bring the BBQ then who will be the cook. I don't trust my cooking since I burned frozen pizza everytime :)

haha- somehow I manage to burn frozen pizza too! My boyfriend lectures me each time LOL.

Yah, those were the confirmed dates- I'm so excited! We were also wondering if anyone has card tables they can bring to put the food on... I looked into it and sadly don't have any. I can start calling my bf's family if people here don't have them. I'm not sure they will have card tables either though...

We may have something to bring.....but we need to nail down if we're eating or BBQ'ing all together.

As for time - how about 2 or 3pm? That will give those who may be hungover *cough* Karen and Lisa a chance to wake up and make their way down to the park. :) What do ya'all think? :)

I am so excited... especially since we are probably going to be moving up that way by the fall.. Either Boise or Spokane area.. possibly Tacoma or Olympia.. but probably the first two.. :D

Olympia is a great area, nice and green and some of the surrounding areas have lots of acreage available!

Denis

12:00 pm would be great.
Mrs Lisa - I vote for Olympia and like Barb said it still affordable with acr. land.
WA will be big change from dry hot weather in Vegas.

3lablady
06-06-2006, 10:35 PM
12:00 probably works good because that way people still can get home early enough Sunday evening and be ready for work the next day.

And yes Lisa, you've got to at least check out the Olympia area. Like I said before you got a place to stay and I can show you the areas around here. Great place for dogs and kids!!

Oh, you are going Gioia! Just tell DH that he can stand on the sidelines and plot with the other (mine especially) husbands about how their going to create their own website...www.husbandsagainstlabboards.com! :floor Or like he suggested today...lab board helpline, 1-800-labchat.

I'm sure once he goes and sees that everyone there are normal lab-loving people, just like us, he'll have a great time! If all else fails you know I'd pick you and Digger up on the side of the highway! :D

Chubs (sorry, I don't know your name) lab fests are for everyone! Of course you are more than welcome to come. :) Some of us know each other and are friends because we live in the same community, and some of us met on the Lab Board! This is a great place to meet people and become friends so...wecome here! WOW- this thread blew up while I wasn't looking.

Chubs- I don't know anyone either!! But it should be fun, so I'll be there!

Even- thanks, haha it made me laugh :smile

Gioia- even if the DH doesn't come you've got to! I'm not sure my bf will come either, but I'm pushing too! Regardless I'll be there.

Getting back to a couple of the issues- does anyone have card tables to put food on? Also can anyone bring a bbq? I sadly have neither...
Should we all volunteer to bring a specific thing food-wise??

Hey Summer!! :D I just can't see in a public dog park like that one, being able to sit and eat anywhere. Other places in the park all the dogs have to be on a leash so it makes it difficult. Anyone want to volunteer a yard to use for afterwards? ;)

3lablady
06-23-2006, 05:33 PM
I wish our yard would be ready by then. We had some logging done so now we have a huge open area plus our lawn area which I lost part of when the trees came crashing down on it! Bummer! We aren't fenced and are on acreage, which for those dogs that don't come when called could be a problem. We are outside now working on cleaning stuff up.

Kali's mom
06-23-2006, 05:55 PM
Oh man I wish I could too-- I live 15 min out of downtown and don't have a big enough yard :O( There's no way that many people would fit even WITHOUT their labs haha.
In the leash area the food would only work if someone had some card tables to hold the food up... without that we're hosed. Even then, I agree that it would be pretty difficult. I wish I knew of a good place...

3lablady
06-23-2006, 07:49 PM
We could BBQ at our place, we might even could have the labfest here! Like I said if your dog doesn't come when called you may have problems. Otherwise they would have a large place to run around on. Might have to see how things go.

Marymoor park is still good?

abbychick
07-10-2006, 12:29 PM
I think the plan still is for Marymoor.

I hate to say it, but I don't think we are going to make it down. Lisa, Jason and I are taking a long trip the day before.....almost 4 hours. The drive to the Seattle airport yesterday to take Lisa back almost killed us. With the heavy Seattle traffic it took us 3 hours. I don't think us or the dogs could handle 6 hours in the car the next day.

Since there are quite a few of us right in this area....I think we'll just do a little mini lab fest here for the BC people and anyone else that wants to come down on that same weekend Lisa is here.

Sorry!! I'm sure you'll get a good turnout anyway....there were quite a few from Washington.

MISS LISA

I'll miss the Washingtonians.. but I have to admit.. since we are making the four hour drive to and from that place where the cabin is on Thursday and Friday.. to drive another 6+ hours on Saturday does not sound too much fun.. especially since we'll have a full car..

I hope you guys have fun.. and I hope we can arrange a smaller on in BC for those Canadians! :smile

I'm not saying yes or no at this pointl We have so much we are working on our property plus we are getting ready to break ground for one of our additions. With Jerry working long hours during the week, weekends are the only time for him to do what he needs to do around the house and property. We are going to play it by how and what we are doing around that time.

07-23-2006, 10:53 PM

I'm still up for WA Labfest if we could meet at Edmonds Marina Park (salt water). It has PLENTY of parking and lot of restaurants within walking distant. The park also has several BBQ pits for grilling.

http://www.explorerdog.com/offleash/edmondsmarina.htm

Per 2006 Tide Prediction - Sat 8/12/06 - 7:17 am 9.8 High tide, 1:33 pm 0.2 Low tide.

Currently I don't have any pic of the place eventhough Denis and I go 3 to 4 times a week. I'll bring camera to take few pics of the place next week.

P.S I really hope some of us will meet on 8.12.06

Ok, sadly I just got downgraded to a maybe as well. I crunched my knee up badly last night and cannot bend it at all. I'm hoping when the swelling goes down I'll have full mobility and no problems, but the orthapedic physician will clue me in a little more tomorrow. If it's something more serious that I won't be able to drive over and negotiate a hyper lab puppy on crutches :o) I'll update when I know more but I'm hoping I can still make it!!!

12:30 is fine with me. As far as where to meet, follow the signs to the dog park area and in the main parking lot which is pretty large almost always there is a truck there that sells ice cream, coffee and dog toys. Just inside is the start of the dog park area and there is large bulletin board. I think meeting at the bulletin board would be best but am open to suggestions.

Kali's mom
08-11-2006, 12:04 PM
Hahaha- that's a smart idea for the truck to sell dog toys along with the people food! Bulletin board sounds great!

OK guys- big hitch in the plans...
Someone (mle ii) just replied with the following info:

"I haven't had the water tested, but I've heard from vets who've seen lots of dogs come from Marymoor Park after swiming in the water there with skin problems. Bentley being one of them. :( We thought it was the water at one point after and after finally getting the skin problems under control we took him to the park, he got excited jumped into the water (I know we shouldn't have gone near the water) and almost immediately after that he got sick and had skin problems again.

Heck even the water source Lake Samamish has lots of cases of swimmers itch and other bad water issues.

So take it for what it's worth, if your dog has skin issues I'd be very hesitent in letting your dog swim there.

Mike"
<!-- / message --><!-- sig -->__________________

This was in the Washingtonians thread in the Fire Hydrant. Ed'smom says that they've seen similar skin problems in Ed, who also swims there. As an over-protective mom, I don't want Kali swimming in possibly contaminated water...
Does anyone know of another area that has clean water? Our local dog park is OK-- no water though. Part is in shade and part is in sun, but more shade than sun. It's not ideal, but it is part of a park that has pits for bbq'ing etc. Does anyone else have a better place to go?

You might want to verify which entrance to the dog park at Marymoor Park. There are two and both have large parking lots and bulletin boards. I know which one you are talking about, but new folks might not. I'd hate for folks to show and not find each other.

Oh, and as I noted elsewhere be careful of the water, Bentley has gotten skin problems almost every time going there. :( We don't take him there much anymore because of that. There are areas away from the water though as it's a huge areas for the dogs to roam. Should be a blast for you folks that get to go.

Away from the water might be ok, like I said it's a large park.

I know of another dog park in Seattle, let me find the info. It's where we've taken Bentley without issue and they're swimming in a much larger body of water (Lake Washington) as opposed to a slough running of Lake Samamish.

That sounds perfect!!! Discovery park has a beach that I've seen lots of dogs running around off- leash, but I don't think it's an official dog park. It's secluded from the main beach but it would be horrible to have everyone show up and then get kicked out!

Yeah, that's it Magnuson Park. There's a dog park there, though I haven't gone. Only my wife has. She liked it and I'm sure Bentley did as well.

As far as going, perhaps, I'm still leary of exposing Bentley to anything while he's still healing as it's only been about 5 or so days since he's been normal. I'll have to think about it and talk with my wife first.

I didn't want to mention 2 lots for fear of confusing people. if you follow the signs i am almost positive it takes you to the main parking lot. Plus only one has a bulletin board at the entrance. One lot leads directly into a large field of the dog park area. we don't want that one. I will have my husband check the map tonight so we will know for sure which parking lot

Well, I could have sworn that there is a bulletin board at the entrance to both.

The one lot that goes directly into a large field and is closest to the remote control airplane field. Lot G.

The other one is closer to the water/slough/river. Lot D.

The map is pretty clear as to which lot is which.

Hmm I thought at Marymoore - dogs allow to swim in Lake Sammamish rather than swim in man-made water holes. I would prefer Denis swim in lake or the sound. How's about Magnuson? I know it's a bit late to change. It's just a thought.

Well, it's the Sammamish River, so it's not man made as far as I knew. The water is running/moving. Gets going pretty good in the winter.

From what was said it sounds like was said here Magnuson was a smaller park, but I haven't gone there so I have no idea.

FWIW This site lists information about lake and swimming area quality.

http://dnr.metrokc.gov/topics/lakes/LKStopic.htm

Looks like Lake Sammamish is good so I would suspect that the river is ok now. Looking at the past there were some bad times. Perhaps that's when Bentley got sick. :(

the water is not man made like french lake park. that is awful now. we won't even take cooper there during the summer.

the only time we ever parked at the other parking lot was during the winter when the 2 parts of the park were divided due to the flooding of the area. So i could be wrong about the bulletin board over there. just don't recall any. know there is one at main entrance and one by the water

you will also see people in the water with their dogs too at marymoor so how bad can the water be.

Well- since there aren't that many of us I don't think it would be hard to change. I'll do either. Magnusun is much closer for us, but I don't want to go there if it means that people will no longer come...
It's nice to see that the water is better now, but I'm still not overly impressed with the area... I've been to neither so it's hard to vote which park is better.
Shall we vote?
I vote Magnusun, but for the record will go wherever we decide.

Marymoor has a lot more room, and trails. It's a pretty big park and lots of folks go their with their dogs. Bentley always has someone to play with there no matter when we go.

coopers mom

there is no comparison between the 2 parks. marymoor is far better. the only thing magnuson offers is a beach and a small dog area. you can't walk around, dogs don't play there- only fetch, plus the beach area is very small. marymoor is huge, dogs can fetch, play galore if it is not too hot , lots of areas to enter the water, lots of different areas to both play and fetch, you can walk around the huge park. i guess the pics of the park i put up were before the crash.
