Hi all...so this is my first post and I'm looking for advice. My husband and I got our first puppy (he's a black lab named Dexter) back at the end of February of this year. I really wanted a chocolate sibling for Dex (double the trouble) and ran across this cutie on Petfinder...any advice for a couple with a 4 1/2 month old lab puppy with a possible new one on the way? I can't link to her picture because it's my 1st post...I think she's purebred but can't tell. The rescue person said she and her sister were abandoned - that's all they know.
Any suggestions or advice?

It's great that you want a sib for Dex but if I were you, I'd wait until Dex is about 1 - 1 1/2. Dex will need a lot of training and it is harder to train two puppies at the same time. Enjoy your time with Dex. Spend lots of time exercising and training him so that he'll be the best dog ever. Then later when Dex is housebroken, trained, has great house manners and is a great dog, add a sib if you feel you want to. If you want another dog to socialize Dex, find a dog park for him.

Good Luck

Thanks for the advice! We've decided if they approve us for the adoption then it was meant to be...otherwise we will wait and enjoy our time with the little man.

if you do get the second puppy make sure to MAKE tiem for individual training and attention. Crate them seperately and get them used to being seperated.

Two pups is alot more work, it requires alot more time (two dogs to train full time) but has been done by others. And watch out for the teenage years!
