View Full Version : Where in the world are you???

Ok first I know this thread has been done already with the idea being a map was to be made but apparently it kinda died. I'm willing to give it a shot but before I commit to such a thing I need some help first.

Can anyone find me a decent map of the U.S / Canada or Both?
By decent I mean.

Large enough so when I put where everyone is from on the map it's not all crammed into a tiny image.

Reasonably blank. I've searched and I keep finding maps with other junk all over it.

Secondly, since I'm just going to do a test to see if I can even do this, if I could start with;

10 Postal codes or Zip codes of where you live. So the first 10 members to give that to me I'll put on the map to see how it looks. I don't want to have everyone submitting their codes until I know what I'm taking on.

Any thoughts?
Lemmie know.

LOL Sorry. I haven't forgotten the rest of the world. My intention is to just start small and see what I can come up with.
Rest assured if this all works out everyone will be included. :D

BTW, if Postal or Zip is a little TOO close to home for you, the town state/province should be fine.
I'm using Yahoo maps to map it.
Thanks.

Awwwwww shucks. Thanks Miss Lisa . :roll2:

One idea I had was creating a powerpoint. slideshow. Start with the Doggies pic, then maybe the members pic then map of where they are rather than having one map with everyone on it. But the potential workload on that might resemble trying to bail out the ocean with a spoon.

The other idea is just using photo shop to place all the locations on it. I just don't know yet how or where it can be posted so people can see it. Might need to ask someone to borrow some webspace. If anyone out there has a personal page.

I'll post another picture there where everyone can see me better.

K1N 9N2 (Ottawa).

Great job on the pictures by the way! I have done quite a few projects with pictures on the computer and find them VERY time consuming. I think before I attempt another project I'll go buy a decent program. I mostly do collages and such. I've done some editing but the programs I have don't go a great job. It's a "work in progress" :)

Ok I've started it. I've decided on creating a PowerPoint presentation. I'll enter the members here and then let everyone have a look to see what they think.
The one reason I thought it might be better this way is the presentation can pretty much be updated by anyone...so you know, if I get hit by a bus or something  someone else can carry it on.

Serena, it seems Yahoo maps hasn't updated their files since the 50's and doesn't seem to recognize nfld as a part of Canada.

Can I have your town name too? That might help.
Thanks.

Thanks Debbie. It IS a lot of work which is why I think the PP Presentation is best. If I can set up the basic template it shouldn't really be too hard for someone to take over if it becomes too much.
I'll be doing this one work breaks so the going will be slow.

Ok I have about 6 members entered so far in the prez. Here's a screen shot of it.

Each member would get two pages. The first showing the map along with a picture of them and their dogs.
The second page would be a picture page containing approximately 4 pictures.

Lisa I hope you don't mind me using your profile here to show the screen shot. You were one of the only members I could fill out all the areas because of the extra pictures you've submitted. ;)

Everyone let me know what you think and tell me if I'm on the right track here.

Hi Shera You can find some information about posting pictures on the main forum home page, scroll to the bottom and you'll see the FAQ section.

As for the PowerPoint Prez with pictures, I'm going to put it on hold for now. Once I started doing it I realized the file will be WAY too big for it to be of any use to anyone. I may in the future start a webpage with everyones pictures but for now I'll just go back to making the basic map without the pictures

SarahandMark, thanks for the map help. I have found one though I * think * I can use for now.

I'll use the information everyone has given me so far to start it up.
I will be on VACATION :brow: next week so I might have more time to work on it.
I really would LOVE to get a web page going but I really should try to concentrate on one thing at a time. I'll do the basic map first.
Thanks everyone for your patience.

Hey everyone I haven't forgotten this map. I've been doing some mock ups at home to test different ways of displaying it. With this amount of members I want to do it right the first time. I'd hate to do it all over again.
