IRS 501c3 charity Search Engine (http://apps.irs.gov/portal/site/pub78/template.MAXIMIZE/menuitem.72f1796ad102792acd9e6be24937a759/?javax.portlet.tpst=289c57ca6035546c47564fe84937a7 59_ws_MX&javax.portlet.begCacheTok=token&javax.portlet.endCacheTok=token) While I would venture to guess ALL groups operating a rescue are doing so and not making a profit, for a "non-profit" charity to truly be tax deductible for your donations, it must meet certain IRS guidelines. Use the above search engine link to see if your favorite charity is really 501c3.
Note, you may have to enter the "official" name of the group. Love Of Labs Indiana, for example, is listed under our official name of LOLIN, INC. as a non-profit charity in Indiana.
