Now if only I could get rid of the Advertisement on the top of the page for "browsing 1000 single asian women"...with ipad I don't think you can though. If anyone knows how to block this ad, let me know! Its only on this forum and is very annoying.
It looks like a thread disappears from New Posts if all you do is read it and not comment. And it disappears if you comment.

Not getting that ad. The ad on mine is for a new Jeep Grand Cherokee. It must tie in to what we've been searching for elsewhere on the web? I was looking at new vehicles and I did look at the JGC. Oh, wow, does that mean the rest of you are busted?

The advertising strategy must be pretty sophisticated because I remember that when reading Voodoo's post mentioning Chili, all of a sudden there was an ad for hot sauces and this happened more than just once, so the ads are obviously, at least partly, based on the contents of the page you're currently viewing and then probably on some of your recent activities on the Net. Although I don't honestly remember doing anything related to Asian women and yet the darn ad kept bugging me for quite some time

Hm. I was just going to say that 'new posts' was working for me, but I just created a new thread in the OT and when I clicked on 'new posts' it wasn't there. I guess since I wrote it, it's not new to me, but it always showed up in the past.

I guess I am getting some new posts but not all of them? I also noticed that after I commented in a thread it totally disappeared from 'new posts' when before it would just be marked as read but still in the new posts. Before it would only go away if after reading, I logged out and logged back in.

Okay its happened again. I signed in just now and this thread was not in "new post" page at all. I then went into the forum and noticed that there were 4 new comments since I was last here.

Gee, its going to be really easy to miss replies to threads.

I am using setting 3 which is recommended by VBulletin. And as far as they are concerned if you post in a thread it is no longer considered a new post and they state it has been that way since Version 3 and we have been on Version 4 for quite a long time.

This option controls how threads and forums are marked as read.

    1. Inactivity/Cookie Based - once a user has been inactive for a certain amount of time (the value of the session timeout option) all threads and forums are considered read. Individual threads are marked as read within a session via cookies.

This option is how all versions of vBulletin before 3.5 functioned.
    2. Database (no automatic forum marking) - this option uses the database to store thread and forum read times. This allows accurate read markers to be kept indefinitely. However, in order for a forum to be marked read when all threads are read, the user must view the list of threads for that forum.

This option is more space and processor intensive than inactivity-based marking.
    3. Database (automatic forum marking) - this option is the same as a previous option, but forums are automatically marked as read when the last new thread is read.

This is the most usable option for end users, but most processor intensive
    Thanks Everyone!!

Ok, now sure what you said Woody. Just wanted to let you know I posted two new threads on OT and they do not show up in New Posts.

Yes thats what happens. I've worked out that its better for me to look at "today's post" rather than "latest posts", otherwise I miss the replies. Also "latest posts" show me pages and pages of all the posts I am not interested in.

However, I suppose I will not see any replies made to a thread if answered a day or so later.

Huh? The only option I see is New Posts.
