Wait, seriously? A Wikipedia link to the Universal Declaration for Human Rights?

I not infrequently encounter students (and others) who claim "First Amendment!" and "Freedom of Speech" as protection against their supposed right to be all kinds of inflammatory and offensive and not catch flack for it. I have to remind them that (1) all speech has limitations (libel, slander, incitement, oppression, threats, perjury, etc.), that (2) there is a little thing called the "offense principle," which indicates that even offensive speech, if it is not easily avoided or ignored (offensive signage blocking student pathways through campus), can be limited, that (3) while much speech is protected, such protections do not prevent people from responding offensively, or thinking you are an idiot, or calling you one, or calling the police, or ignoring you, and most importantly (4) that the First Amendment concerns the government's suppression of speech, not having another individual respond "hey, that's stupid, shut up" (or "don't do that on my website").

Hehe! A quote on human rights?? This is a privately ran online chat forum, please step away from the keyboard, go play with your dog, have a few shots of some really hard liquor and chill out

But seriously, what human right was violated exactly?

Every once in awhile I miss the good old days, Uplander, dueling with Betty and I and our band of merry liberals, and the band of those quoting stuff so off topic that I would smile and shake my head. But Woody runs the show (and well I might add and 'we serve at the request of our leader.......or something like that!!!!) Back away from the keyboard and have a great weekend!

I do miss Uplander. I'd like to know Satch is doing ok, and Pete too.

And I desperately want to know if he's supporting Trump, he must be right? And it might have cheered Betty up during her recovery.

I was thinking of Pete and Satch just the other day but with regard to his opinions on food and FidoVite. It did keep things lively when there were such differences of political opinion here. Less stressful to engage in here than with my elderly mother, too.

“Because of the dog's joyfulness, our own is increased. It is no small gift. It is not the least reason why we should honor as well as love the dog of our own life, and the dog down the street, and all the dogs not yet born. What would the world be like without music or rivers or the green and tender grass? What would this world be like without dogs?”

Pete (Uplander) has retired, and moved to a lovely new house in the country. Satch is doing well, and loves his new home. Lots of deer to watch, and bunnies too.

Actually, no. He is NOT supporting Trump. Believe it or not, he and I are in agreement on some things politically this season. Without getting into it, if Bernie had made it as the nominee, he would have been able and willing to vote for him rather than the two apparent choices.
