BARF Diet

I have not seen this thread out there yet so I will be the first. We currently feed our dogs BARF (Bones and Raw Food....very controversial and sounds disgusting to most but I am a strong believer in it as those who believe kibble is the best) but I am wondering, we did not start feeding our dogs the above mentioned diet for I believe 6 months and that is a guess. I know how to mix food anytime you switch but I am not sure how to go about this with a 8 week old pup. Every dog is different I know and how they will, if at all, accept raw food (btw, it is a HIGH MAINTENANCE DIET phew....lots of work) but is there anyone out there that is knows about this diet and follows this type of diet for their dog and have started out with pups as young as 8 weeks? We started our lab on nutro for large breed dogs, lamb and rice I believe and moved to BARF with NOOOOOOo problems. They are more excited to eat that than the other stuff....unless they hear the can opener which must jog their memory from past times....LOL

Welcome fellow BARFer. Glad you are seeing the rewards of this diet and I'm sure your new addition will as well. We changed our guys over 2+yrs ago they are now 10 and 4. I know breeders that have raised pups on BARF but not having switched a puppy from kibble to natural. Check out the group LabradorBARF there are many that have been at it for some time and may have done this change with a pup.

Hey labracorn, do you mean the yahoo group LabradorBARF? I'm still waiting for my membership to be approved.

Yes that is the one, if you have been waiting for a while I would resubmit they are usually pretty fast at adding members. Another one we belong to is RawDogCanada also a yahoo group. It is very informative and their are many breeders on this group that now have genertions of BARF and natural raised dogs. Of course this is an all breed group but some real pro BARFers.
