At one point I was worried that our Lab was a carrier but then it seemed that he grew out of it. He's five now.
The one thing pointing to it not being from raw is that is the exact same pattern, smell, etc. as the issues before. So, this makes me believe it is something on-going. Perhaps a parasite.

If the exact symptoms happened on kibble and the week before starting raw I would say it looks like some sort of bug/parasite. It does also sound like giardia or one of the intestinal bugs that can linger and intermittently show symptoms and false periods of recovery. Does he swim or paddle in any stagnant water or creeks?

The only other thing that it may be if it's not a parasite/GIT infection is something he has access to and eating in your garden, at the park or on walks....something even sprayed on grasses.

The smelliest of the poo seems to indicate that it is more likely the first possibility.

More mucus-y poo on the floor today per the dog walker.

And yes, identical issues on three type of food (two kibble, one raw).

The dog is in lots of mud, water, ponds, rivers, creeks, and so forth. So, giardia would not surprise me. The only think that would surprise me is that my other dog does not have it too. Or maybe he does, but he's built up an immunity as he is older.

The garden is fenced off and they are never in the yard unattended. He does not go to dog parks and is always attended at other locations. The only place that I do not keep a close eye on him is in the yard (I am out there as well, but not watching him like a hawk), but I don't have anything poisonous and I don't spray or fertilize, etc. He is not allowed to sniff on walks.

It does really point to a parasite of some sort and I have read that the giardia can cause intermittent issues. So, that makes sense.

The other thing is that last weekend I weighed him for the first time in months and he's actually lost weight between 8 months and 12 months. I thought it may have had something to do with the field training and additional summer exercise -- I did not increase his food. But now I wonder if it has something to do with this issue. He went from 92 to 86.

I should hear from the vet soon.

From today, I would ban all visits to mud, creeks, ponds etc....Until you get a confirmation of something different. Stay away from all stagnant water, no playing in it or drinking it either.

The weight loss for that age and the extended time this has been happening means this is something that needs urgent action.

The sample the dog walker saved for me off the floor was, I'm pretty sure, vomit. And no poop last night or this morning. Today she got a sample that she saw come from his butt and I took it to the vet. She suspects giardia and is concerned about the weight loss, though she thinks he looks great at this weight, so he is not thin. Though I think he looks thin for his build.

She put him on metroconizale (sp?) for diarrhea as well as giardia if he has it. He's on probiotics as well. She also wanted to give him an anti-nausea shot, but I declined, as I think the vomit in the mornings are from an empty stomach. I bought him some boneless skinless chicken breasts and gave him one for dinner. Apparently that is the raw version of a bland diet.

We should have test results on Monday.
