Sardines - all I can find are sardines in olive oil......

and yes they have salt too - not fond of.

Anyone else able to find sardines without salt/oil?

I'm not worried about olive oil, they actually get olive oil in their meals anyways....but I don't like the added salt.

Go to Walmart in the canned meat isle. They are normally $1/can in water with no salt added.

3 walmarts within my commute only have sardines in oil or tomato.

I did find sardines online for Walmart in water - was hoping to get them local though.

I only feed the sardines in olive oil. It's what my holistic vet recommends for dogs, she recommends the ones in water for cats. They only get sardines 1-2 times per week though. Everything in moderation. When you say added salt, are you saying salt is a listed ingredient? Because the brand I buy at my local grocery store does not have that. It's just sardines and olive oil.

We are fortunate that our raw coop orders flash frozen whole sardines - no oil - no salt. They are about 8 oz per fish. If you don't already belong to a raw coop - see if there is one in your area. They have the ability to get some neat stuff! Costco used to have some nice ones in olive oil but at the one near our house switched to boneless/skinless. That's not even worth it. The skin/bone/guts are good for them. When we fed the canned ones we gave them the olive oil too.

The ones I use are Crown Prince brand, sardines and water are the only ingredients, even though the nutrition label says it contains 85 mg sodium. This brand also comes packed in olive oil, mustard and hot sauce. Bumble Bee brand has salt as an added ingredient. I don't think the Trader Joe's brand has added salt but I can't find any of those in the cabinet.

The ones I use are about $1 per can also. I don't find these at some of the "better" grocery stores, although the better stores certainly have sardines that are more like $2.79 per can. I get them at one of the grocery stores that are less high-end, but the sardines look and smell fine, they're plump and intact little filets and the dogs seem to like them just fine. Since I also give grizzly salmon oil, I only split a can between the 2 dogs maybe once per week.

“Because of the dog's joyfulness, our own is increased. It is no small gift. It is not the least reason why we should honor as well as love the dog of our own life, and the dog down the street, and all the dogs not yet born. What would the world be like without music or rivers or the green and tender grass? What would this world be like without dogs?”

We get whole sardines from the local fish market. There usually 1.50/lb

You can also order them online from Raw Feed Miami there 1.80/lb
