Anybody here get grief from family for feeding raw?

I just now told my mom about the change I've made to Shiloh's diet.

Her first reaction was "are you sure that's even good for him?" As I assured her it's probably the best way to feed a dog by far, she realized the meat is raw. Then it was "oh, that's disgusting! Just cook it!"

I tried explaining that you can't give cooked bones and that they're necessary on this type of diet.
Her response "I don't care, that's just disgusting. He won't be eating any raw meat when he's at my house (she watches him whenever we're out of town)."

From there the conversation couldn't continue because all she would say is "I don't wanna talk about it. That's too disgusting and I just ate."

Me: shrugs, rolls eyes, wonders if it'll hurt him to revert to kibble every time we go to visit my wife's family in Oklahoma.

I mostly just get, "OMG - what about the bones? Won't those kill them???"

A couple people think it's gross, but they also eat all of their food from boxes because it's also gross that fresh vegetables at one time had slugs on them and they won't eat fresh eggs because store-bought eggs are sterile and eggs from chicken butts are unsanitary.

Whatever!

No, I don't get grief. I did get questions 'cause we changed pretty quickly. I didn't get grief when I used a prong either. Or when I left him intact. I think the secret is my hair. It's pretty grey. People either think I'm old and wise or a crazy old bat not safe to argue with.

Nope, they do think I am pretty "weird" in general when it comes to my dogs though. Probably raw is one of the least strange things I've done in their opinion, LOL. Even though they all have dogs too. But really they never batted an eye about raw, and every hunting season I collect tons of deer from them. My grandma actually always comments on how much better my dogs look than the rest of my family's dogs, and says she knows it is b/c they are on raw.

Yep, sometimes. But I don't get into arguments with them. It's just the way it is, my dog is raw fed - and no one's disgust will change that, because I don't care if they are disgusted!

Nope, no one comments on my choices. The ones that do get the "once you pay for my dogs' food bill, then you have a right to comment" which shuts them up.

I switch mine between kibble and raw from time to time and no tummy problems. I would try it at home first before you put the dog at the mom's. You don't want the dog to be sick the whole time he's there. You could also give her commercial prepared raw patties, and it might not be that gross for her.

The patties aren't a bad idea really. They're too expensive for me to use all the time but for a week might not be too bad.
If not, I think she wouldn't have a problem giving him raw bones as long as the meat was cooked. I imagine that wouldn't be too big a deal for just a few days either.

When I have to have someone else feed them, I pre-measure and bag up each meal in it's own ziploc baggie, label it with their name and which meal it is. Then all they have to do is dump in a bowl. And I will pick easy things to feed, and for example avoid tripe, lol.
