The bones, organs and flesh all in one. 400 grams is about what we feed my male who is very active and not full grown. We feed the female a little less at each meal. 600 grams seems a little bit high for a 6 year but that may be why she is overweight. We can't get whole mackerel in the Pacific Northwest but we do get yummy fresh frozen sardines and we feed those to our Newfs and Lab about two meals a week.
Aha! interesting. similar thing as said by the newf rescue (who knows the breed very well obviously!). Go figure. They seemed to say this wouldn't be a forever every day diet, there are other foods (tripe, pork, etc.) but that mackarel is a full meal for a newf and that shoudl be fine for a few weeks/month or so.

Do you mean 400gram per meal or 400 total in a day?

    thanks!

Dog arrived, she is SUPER obese, very very sad. I now have a freezer full of mackerel hahahaha (my friend who is fostering doesn't have a chest freezer so I am holding what she can't fit).

With that diet and slowly increasing her activity your friend can help her get in shape. We rescued our 20 month old Newf and 3 months ago and he too was overweight and out of shape. He is the same weight but has replaced some fat with muscle and can run now. When we first got him he got tired with a short walk. Daily walks and playing with our dogs has really helped to get him into shape. The better shape she is in the easier it will be to find her a forever home. It will also help develop a bond between them - of course then she might end up a failed foster

    thanks

She is VERY fat, my friend got her weighted - she is 160. She wants to play but doesn't get very far before she's too tired. She does seem to move around on her own puttering in the yard and such. I suggested short walks (15mins if that to begin with).

Sweet girl though. This is her - the photo of her running (first one) is an old one, the others were taken over the last few days
