Berna why do you care so much about her dog's weight? Does it really matter?

Excuse me? You feed raw right? You don't think that she should know that 6 chicken thighs are a LOT of food? Or that it's not good to mix kibble and raw?

But yes, if I see that someone's dog is on the heavier side and the owner is still feeding too much, I feel I should tell him/her. If the owner gets offended, then it's his problem. I just feel sorry for the dog, that's all.

I never said that protein adds weight.

Fat is good. Too much fat is not.

Besides, other people are also watching this thread. Some may want to try feeding their dogs raw but don't know much about it. If a person comes here and posts exactly how you should NOT feed your dog, I believe it can lead people to the wrong track.

I did. To be honest I don't know the appropriate quantity for a lab because my dachshund was my raw fed dog and a single drumstick was more than a day's portion. So I'm not really sure if that's too much for her dog particularly since he's a mixed breed.'

Berna, I'm not trying to pick a fight with you but I think some of the comments on this thread are excessively harsh and counterproductive. It all boils down to delivery. When your tone is accusatory and teeming with pity for the dog, your message is completely lost because you've put the person defense mode.

This a forum and a post on a topic is going to get all sorts of responses. Some of those responses are not going to be related to the question asked and that's fine. Just because the you give advice doesn't mean the person has to follow it or even acknowledge it, that's up to them. But it is unacceptable to attack someone just because they don't want to listen to or accept your advice.

Wait wait wait... where did anyone attack her?

    "Don't mix kibble and raw"

"Don't feed your dog cat food"

"6 chicken thighs are a lot - don't give that much food"

And when someone doesn't acknowledge that he is doing a bad thing for his dog, then all you can say is

"Feed a decent kibble and follow the feeding instructions on the bag"

Sorry, but that is not attacking, that is suggesting.

In fact, for dogs that are ill, and refusing to eat, giving canned cat food is often recommended to entice them.

Please check the facts before you condemn.
I'm surprised that cat food would be recommended; we had a dog years ago that ate cat food because she preferred it too dog food. To our surprise, she was starting to go into kidney failure - turns out, cat food, back then anyways, had too much ash for dogs.

Once we eliminated cat food, within a few weeks the dog was fine and lived out her normal life.

Tilapia, an egg (broken because otherwise he carries it off to the yard, lays it down and forgets about it), spirulina, kelp, alfalfa powder and salmon oil.
