    Resources for cooked recipes?

Bubba has never been very stable with his food. He came home on something from the breeder (forget what it was), but had horrible diarrhea. We switched him to ProPlan Sensitive Stomach, no improvement. We switched him to Fromm, some very small improvement. He's now on ProPlan Sport which has been the best for his runny poop but isn't great. More worrying to me is how itchy his face is and has always been.

I'm thinking of trying home cooked. I would do raw, but am limited by lack of freezer space & difficulty of getting ingredients at a reasonable price.

I haven't been able to find too many good recipes during my research. Does anyone have any recipes or resources they continually re-use?

My friends use the Pitcairn book. Look for the newest edition, I think that will be the second. In the first he uses grapes and some other things are updated.

Dr. Pitcairn Cats: Richard H. Pitcairn, Susan Hubble Pitcairn: 9781579549732: Books - Amazon.ca

I home cooked special recipes from my Vet for Oban's gut issues. I made up batches and froze them, still needed a certain amount of freezer space.

ETA: the link says cats but it's for dogs too.

I too was going to recommend Dr. Pitcairn's book if you want to do home-cooked. I feed prey model raw to all three of my labs, and honestly I think I would be spending much more time and money to do home-cooked.....it is just my opinion that raw is much easier. With home-cooked there are more ingredients to buy and more planning to make sure it is balanced. Either way, raw and home-cooked are both great options, I honestly don't think that one is "better" than the other. I just find shopping and planning for raw to be much easier and cheaper.

Thank you shellbell & Snowshoe for the recommendation! I had seen this book and have since bought it and read it. It does contain a lot of useful information. My main concern about the recipes and information it provides is that the recipes do seem to be very grain heavy, which is usually one of the first thing that people cut from their dogs diets for allergy relief. Lots of rolled oats.

You may also look at at Dr Strombeck's book or website.

He has diets for medical conditions, as well. It helped me in 2007 when foods were revealed in recalls to have put a couple of our dogs in kidney failure.

Wheat corn and soy are typically the grains that have problems. Rice and oats are usually safe.

the dog may just have an over-abundance of bad bacteria in their gut too. Wrigley had that problem. We ended up giving her tylan with her meals for 2 weeks and the problems went away. you can get tylan on Amazon. The vets had idea what was really wrong.
