Beer Can Chicken

The chicken has been stuffed with a can of beer on it's butt and it's on the BBQ as we speak. I have never made one before but I figure what the heck they look good! I am going to sit out and enjoy the afternoon!

I have never had beer can chicken, either. Let us know how it goes. They did one on America's Test Kitchen, and they raved about how moist it was. They also said to be very careful pulling the can out. I think they let the chicken rest with the can in it for a little while.

This is one of DH's favorite things to do on the BBQ! You'll love it. It's so moist!

This is my recipe.

Season outside of chicken with pepper, salt or seasoning salt. Drink one half of your favorite canned beer. Put about 2 teaspoons of cajun seasoning in the beer can with the remaining beer. Stick chicken on can until it can be balanced. Place on smoker or grill (indirect heat) for about two hours. You will have one of the most moist chickens you have ever tasted.

You can also do the same thing with turkey only a great big beer can, or cornish game hens and instead of beer use the little grapefruit juice cans. The grapefruit juice gives it a tangy taste, but not bad.

It turned out great, the juiciest chicken I have ever had. I basted it in bbq sauce as well to really give it some flavour.

A couple of things, a website said to cook it for an hour and a half. I had it on the lowest heat for about double that time. Put a pan down or make one out of tinfoil to sit it on, it drips alot and will make a mess of your BBQ and you will have a ton of fires on your hands.

I don't understand how the barbeque lid can go down with the chicken standing up in there. Do you (or can you) remove that top little shelf thing in the bbq?

I have never heard of this, and was having trouble visualizing a chicken with a beer can up it's butt, but you did a very good job describing it! I've had shrimp steamed it beer and it was really good, so I would imagine this would be good, too! Gotta try this one; thanks for the recipe!

Yup, you have to take the racking out to make it fit. Here's a little picture, I couldn't really find a better one on Google.
