Thanks everyone for your input. I'm starting to feel a little bit better about letting them be for at least a month and watching to see if they change. I do feel a little better knowing that they are not attached and I can move them around in the skin. We lost our lab-mix to MCT 7.5 years ago, and so I know I tend to be extra cautious with lumps and bumps. That said, I just wish he didn't have them at all! LOL!

We just had ANOTHER friend end up in the hospital (that's 3 in 2 weeks) so we do have lots of distractions right now.

I'll keep you posted. I know I'm not on here much, but it's so nice to know I have you guys to lean on with stuff like this. You are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I am new to this site. We have a 6 year old lab. I found his first lump this evening. In reading the older posts, I am glad to hear that it is a common thing as they get older. My lab's lump is on his chest near his rib cage and moves around. I will definitely keep an eye on it. Thank you for your posts.

A good way to track it to see if it grows is to use wax paper- put on lump and draw around it and then do another the next week, then the next. I am waiting out a lump Tippy has that suddenly appeared last week...vet thought it was a ruptured blood vessel. Thankfully it has already gotten smaller. Good luck

Brandy has a tiny lump on her side which sounds similar. I had the vet look last summer and she said she was sure it was a sebaceous cyst because when she grabs it and squeezes gently it seems to be a little tender to Brandy. She said the only real danger is that when it bursts it will burst inward which could cause an infection. So far it hasn't burst and it hasn't grown.

While I'm sure it's fine, it's always a good idea to get your vet's opinion.

I was just worrying about this issue myself! I noticed my seven year old lab's first lipoma around two years ago... but recently I've noticed at least 10 new ones arise within his last check-up! Now, his next check-up won't be until May... and I know that lipomas are not usually things to worry about... but since he's gotten so many all the sudden I'm worried! So I think I'm going to go for his check-up sooner then May... hopefully within the next few weeks.

I wish all of you guys with the lumpy dogs the best of luck.

My boy had his first lump when he was 6 - the appearance completely mimicked that of a lipoma but it turned out to be MCT. It is always better safe than sorry when you find these things. Early detection and treatment spared my baby...and he's 7 now and doing just great!

I loathe these lumps too. My senior got her first lumps around 7 or 8. Around that time, she had a bunch pop up. Now she's older and I haven't found any new ones in two+ years. Might be that age. Since that point she has also went on thyroid meds and is doing great.

My almost 13 year old girl has them all over the place. Not only lumps but wormy looking warts growing in some places. None concern me at this point. An MCT feels very different. Like a baseball under the skin.

I'm very cautious about lumps. Rhys had a small lump that my vet assured me was nothing, and until it decided to grow, I was content with that.

He has lots of fatty lipomas etc. but I just had a bad feeling about it.

Sure enough, cancer.

Now I don't play around. Ruby had a small warty looking thing removed last month (she's 5.5 now, can you believe it?) just because of my paranoia.

Rhys gets all lumps and bumps aspirated. ALL OF THEM. After 12 cycles of chemo in September, we don't mess around.

That sums up my thoughts EXACTLY. I took Bo in for his lump the first time and the vet told me it was nothing. And sure enough, it disappeared...little did I know that MCTs do that. It came back and I took him back and in and demanded it be aspirated...cancer. We take NO chances now.

Unfortunately, I thought I knew what an MCT felt like too (or at least thought I knew what one didn't feel like)...the one that he had removed felt just like every other fatty tumor I'd ever felt.

Yes, charts are the best things! I had found 7 lumps on Ben, our oldest at almost, and had them mapped out. An oncologist found three more that I didn't, so I know where they are now. They are all fatty tumors.

Hailey is our youngest at 4 (five this coming Saturday!). She had a small BB size one right behind her right front leg. In her case, it could have been anything... she's the kind of dog that runs into parked cars. The oncologist said it was a follicular cyst... kind of like an in-grown hair. One day it got all red and puffy and burst... it hasn't come back so she'll be OK.

I, too, drive my vet nuts on occasion asking for every little lump to be aspirated. It doesn't take long, though, and we know in minutes that things are OK. I'm just afraid that the one time I don't do anything it will be something to worry about.

Now that I have that complete map of all three of the dogs, I'm taking it to the annual visit this Friday and having our vets check them over to make sure nothing new has popped up that I can feel.

Thoughts and prayers to you and Tanner... I'm afraid this is just the beginning of a (hopefully) old and lumpy Lab!

Yes, with some labs as they get past 10 they are just everywhere. My lab must have over 30+ of various sizes. Its a good idea to feel up your lab every week and see if anything is appearing or getting larger. My ortho vet said he has seen them grow and move organs. My lab has one (large) under the armpit/shoulder that no vet wants to mess with. It is intertwined with all the ligaments and tendons of her arm/shoulder. And she has limped on that shoulder for a few years now. At around age six the first ones appeared and have increased every year since then. They are just all over the place.
