How much dog food should I give my dog a day?

The people I bought him from told me to feed him 65g four times a day. But Im not sure if that is correct..just wanted to make sure, please tell me!!

Take a home scale .weigh the dog and then use the chart on the dog food bag to find the right measure by age and weight. Every dog food is different and the manufacture charts are a good source.
I have changed food a few times due to traveling and camping trips and always this has helped.

And how old is the dog? Puppies eat more per weight.

Please remind us of your pup's weight? As I recall, in a previous post you said he was about 6.9 pounds. That seems very small for a pure bred lab puppy at 8 weeks of age. Did you mean 6.9 kg, which would be more typical of a pup that age? We do have another member on here whose pup was pretty tiny for a lab also and she's doing well, just still on the small side. That might influence the feeding recommendations.

Since we don't use metric measurements much in the US, I'd also suggest checking the bag of food to see how much to feed. The 2 bags of food I have here say that 1 cup of kibble weighs about 110 grams. That would mean your pup is getting about 2 1/4 cups per day total if your food is similar. Many people here say their 8 week old pups came home eating 1 cup of food 3 times a day. Lab puppies grow pretty quickly so you may find yourself increasing the amount of food he's eating very soon. If your pup is still acting hungry on what he's getting now, you could try increasing the amount a little and see how he does. The instructions on the bag of food can be a good place to start, every pup is a little different.

I agree to start with the instructions on the bag but your main guideline as to when/how to adjust it should be your puppy. If they are constantly hungry (although this is hard to judge in a Lab as most are always hungry!) and seem on the thin side, feed more - or if they seem to be in a major growth spurt, feed more. If they are getting a bit too chubby, feed less. I constantly adjust how much food my dogs get due to growth (when young) and activity when older, but I do find the amounts on the bag are way too much for my dogs.

For a puppy I like the old; give him all he'll eat in 15 minutes plus or minus, 3 times a day.
