    Grain Free...what else?

So China's ears were doing fabulous until these last few days and I don't know what else to do...I've had her on grain free for a while now...should I now go low carb? I was reading to cut the carbs (due to sugar) I mean her ears are not terrible like before but all of a sudden I see yucky stuff in there again and she is itching. I just bought a new bag of food for her yesterday and its grain free duck & potato...because I didn't know about going low carb until my reading today.
I have also made sure to get them dry if it rains...what else can I do?

My dog is supposed to be on a daily allergy pill to help prevent infections. I'd check with your vet. You may need to do the antibiotic drops.

I use an ear wash homemade from a formula of JenC. It works great, balances the PH in the ear, that's 99% of the trouble with ears.

I hope she does not mine me giving the formula, if she does she can beat me with a wet noodle.

I use the pour in the ear and massage for 30 seconds method. Then let the dog shake head and repeat. This has worked perfectly for Gabe and his vet always comments on how clean and fresh smelling his ears are.

    1 pint of Witch Hazel
8-10 drops of Tea Tree Oil
    2 teaspoons Boric Acid

Shake the bottle very well until the Boric Acid is "dissolved" ..Also I shake the bottle well before applying to ears. I wash Gabe's ears about every 2-3 weeks.

    Good Luck!!

LOL---thanks Blackboy-that's a great recipe there...but what could be the cause of this happening again? I'm wondering if its from the occasional taste of oatmeal or something else...(she loves when my dd has oatmeal for breakfast lol she gets to lick her spoon at the end)

Could be oatmeal, every dog is different. Try the wash and see if it helps. JenC is smart and since she shows her dogs the judges do look at the ears , I think. Plus it is just better that the dog does not have this problem!!

I was just going to mention the potato. If the duck and potato is the Fromm food, Maverick couldn't handle any of the formulas. Not sure why, but he always got horrible ear infections after starting a bag.

I put apple cider vinegar in my dogs food. Maverick gets 2T and Bear gets 2tsp. Bear doesn't need it, but he loves the flavor and I don't want to leave him out. I use it because Mav had ear issues, yeast issues, and itchy paws and skin. I have him ingest it because it covers all of the issues he had. He still itches a bit, but it only gets incessant when his seasonal allergies get icky.

I also get special ear drops from the vet. It is made by Dechra and is called Mal-A-Ket Plus TrizEDTA. It is antimicrobial and antifungal. I use it as maintenance. I've used it as often as weekly or as little as monthly. It can be used twice daily for severe infections.

My vet had me using enzymes last time which I still have, will try again as well to see if it keeps things from getting worse. I didn't know about adding the apple cider vinegar to the food-that really works?? wow Fab. idea and Im gonna try that starting tonight.

Yes just work up to it. I believe it takes a month or so to notice an improvement.
