It really depends on the dog and his or her requirements. Try the lower fat one and see how the dog responds.
We switched from TOTW to 4 Star after our older boy got real sick off a bad bag a while ago. He is much better for the change. more energy and better poop etc. We are about to put our younger guy on adult food and was curious if the lower protein and fat in the Gold Large breed was good bad or indifferent? It cheaper by about $20 a bag.
I'll save you all the look up. Protein/Fat
4 Star is 30/19
Gold is 24/12
Any thoughts? Many thanks

I've been feeding 4 Star for about 4 years and have been very happy with the results. I do rotate the proteins with each bag, adding in Petkind Dry Tripe every 3rd bag. That being said I don't feed the chicken variety, nor any with white potatoes as a main ingredient. Both dogs have very nice coats, barely shed (crazy I know!) have great energy, good poo's etc. I did feed Fromm Large Breed Puppy Gold to Bruce until he was 12 months old,and was very happy with it.
With all this to think about, I will say this. Every dog is different, what works great for one, may be crap for another. I'd love to feed less expensive food, but with how well mine are doing on their current food, I see no reason to change.
I feed the Gold mainly and am very pleased with it. I have a 15 year old (jrt x), 11 yo lab x on the Adult Gold and my new puppy will be going on the Fromm LB puppy as well. I will occasionally throw in a bag of 4 star grain inclusive (duck/sweet potato or salmon a la veg) but the Gold is my go to. Dogs do well on it and I love the company.
We've used 4 star for our guys and they do very well on it. Never used the gold star but it's all about the individual dog.
I fed a 24/20 food to Emma not thinking it would be the best for her because of the lower protein, but she did great on it. Sometimes all you can do is try something.
