    Victor vs. Pro Plan Natural

Some of you know that I've recently gone a few rounds with Maverick and some fur/poop issues.

Our new vet, well vets DO NOT recommend a grain free diet. They work in conjunction with each other. They all do general practice for vaccinations, but they each have a specialty as well. There's neurology, cardiology, internal med, surgical specialties...etc.

Their reasons actually come from the allergist/dermatologist from Texas A&M. Apparently the reason why many dogs do better on grain free food is because of the use of novel proteins. In actuality, most dogs aren't allergic to the grains but to the protein (usually chicken or beef) and that wheat allergies were mostly found in a line of Irish Setters. They recommended that we find a food with whole grains as a healthier option than grain free. While we don't plan on switching quite yet and plans may change depending on what Maverick's lab results come back as, we have been researching.

First, I'd just like to say that finding a whole grain food with a close to 30 protein and 20 fat ratio has been pretty difficult.

We have a number of foods on our list, but two that I don't know of anyone feeding.

Victor Hi-Pro Plus and Pro Plan Natural Plus. Has anyone used either of these foods? What do you think?

We've used pro plan as our main food for years. Not all the dogs get it due to chicken issues. We've fed the Turkey & Barley most consistently. The problem with the natural line of Pro Plan is that it costs just as much as some of the other natural premium foods out there. So at that point I end up picking up an extra bag of Evangers like the Pheasant & Brown Rice. But we're not trying to hit that upper end of the fat.

Not sure if it's on your list but Life's Abundance All Life Stages has grain. 26% protein / 16% fat. I had Samson on that until I switched him to the weight management option. He has done great on both.

I have used pro plan natural chicken and rice and had great results with it for my three labs, how ever 33lbs bag of food does not last too long in my house so I am making the transition to sportdog food which the formulas all look pretty good. www.sportdogfood.com check them out!

Gigi is on lamb and rice pro plan focus adult. when we switched over from puppy food , she threw up a few times but seemed to settled down. She is 75 lbs now and the vet told us she is good weight. . she looks thin but all solid [i think its her damn gene. her dame was a yellow lab/gsd mix and looked skinny at 75 lbs]. Her poop color has gone all black now and bigger / solid. He coat gets alot of compliments at the dog park.

I've had Emma and patches on Victor hi-pro for a couple months now. Couldn't ask for a better kibble. I've noticed they don't get that doggy smell as quickly as they used to if at all actually. I can get it at my farm store for $43.99 after tax for a 40# bag. Best food I've ever fed I think.
