Honestly my lab is somewhere between 75lbs and 80lbs lbs, eats a measured even 2 cups acana a day, (1cup am 1 cup pm) hardly gets treats, definitely not every day (do humans need a chocolate bar daily?) sometimes he will get a little something of human food but definitely not every day. Too many people, expecially lab owners equate food for love since they are such chow hounds, but honestly? my guy would much rather get an extra walk or a fun adventure then some extra treats. (although he would never turn down the treat) at the end of the day, a tired dog getting more exercise is happier then one who got less exercise and a couple treats.
no need to add in all these extra veggies and such in meals or as "snacks" dogs don't need snacks. Remember the dry food gets 2-5 times bigger in the stomach of the dog, if you are worried about him being "hungry" and thats why you are giving snacks, there is no need really the stomach fills up with the dry when it takes in water, and dogs stomachs adjust its size in about a week to the new amount of food. all the snacks, although low calorie, are still calories and they add up
Up the exercise to 45 mins twice daily, if you have time even up it later to an hour twice daily. make sure it is a measured cup, not heaping. and stop the snacks and he will loose weight.
