I sure hope it doesn't take a few years to figure it out. Niner did so well on Authority fish and potato. He's back on Proplan but his poop is soft

Lido couldn't tolerate PP either. He's doing much better on Royal Canin Labrador Retriever Puppy. It also comes in an adult version. I found it the cheapest on Chewy.com, but supposedly, Petsmart will price match.

We tried that one too. We went slow and at half and half he had horrible diarrhea. He is my problem child. He has a problem with chicken, but wanted to try the RC in the hopes I was wrong. Nope he can't handle chicken. *sigh*

Which grains are the worst for dogs? Which ate okay? I’ve read corn and wheat are not good, but are there others? Trying to figure out if there are some limited grain formulas that are the best of both worlds.

I'm not sure that corn and wheat are bad, but they are not well-tolerated by some dogs. Farmina is one to look at. Rice works fine for some dogs. Suspect ingredients to avoid peas, potatoes and legumes. At first they were saying avoid if they are the first five, then avoid if they come before the vitamins and now, just avoid them all together.

Farmina Ancestral Low Grain is a very good kibble, but pricey.

Thanks! That's the one I was just looking at. Looks very good. I wouldn't mind switching him now, but I think I will hold out until I originally planned to switch him to an adult food.

I think dog food has changed over the years from meat based to plant based. I used to feed Science Diet, which was considered top notch back in the day. The formula changed, and now, it's mainly carbs/grains.

Gainesburgers or Alpo! Those were my parents' dogs in the 60s or 70s. We got our own first dogs in the 80s, I think I fed Purina then, too. Our boxers and bull mastiffs did not live longer lives than the ones who ate those yummy, yummy looking Gainesburgers.
