Back then we didn't know as much. Dog has hip dysplasia or OCD and a limp and mostly it just was what it was. Dog has a limp. Also, dogs were not as fat back then. I had an old vet when I lived in NY who told me the key to life is good genetics and keep the weight down.

Left overs! My parents fed our dog whatever we ate for dinner that night. My mom cooked everything from scratch. That dog lived to 17.

Kid dog (from pet store) lived to 17 on Alpo and Skippy wet foods and my first two dogs lived to be 17 and 16 on Wellness and Natural Balance grain-free foods. One from shelter and one from breeder. Genetics, luck...who knows!

We had a little mutt when I was growing up. She lived to be 17 and she ate Pedigree her entire life.

I've fed proplan sensitive skin salmon before and am thinking to go back. It's supposed to take 3 months to complete a switch - is that true??

Depends on the dog. I change mine cold turkey and no issues. But, they typically get different stuff every few days anyway - raw, different proteins, kibble, homecooked, different treats. Even the puppy (he was raised that way).

I agree that it depends on the dog. I usually complete a switch in 2-3 weeks.

When we were growing up...we adopted a puppy from the shelter, Skipper. He was absolutely the best dog ever! So smart and gentle. He never had any formal training and he would eat anything my Mom would throw in his bowl.

He also lived a very long life...16!

Go figure! Why is everything so complicated today! LOL!
