    That also applies to humans!

It also seems to me that most of the dogs affected are goldens. Yes there are some others, but mostly goldens. I wonder if there is something genetic there. I really hope they don't take forever and a day to figure this out.

Most dogs don't show any symptoms with DCM until it's too late - that's what's scary about this. I do think some of these companies are getting too much protein from plants and not enough from meat. Dog food companies should be required to list how much protein is from meat and how much from grains, potatoes, legumes. I've moved Niner over to ProPlan Savor beef and rice. It has soybean meal in it which is a legume, but he doesn't do well on so many foods so I'm keeping him on it.

When the original article came out, this wasn't on there, hence the discussion about it.

Everyone should make decisions based on what's best for their dogs.

I have had dogs live long healthy lives on Alpo as well as grain-free foods, but that doesn't mean anything other than it worked for those few dogs. I also have family members that lived long healthy lives as smokers. My dad smoked a pack of Pal-Mal unfiltered cigarettes every day of his life starting when he was 14 years old and somehow that didn't kill him (he died of the flu well into his 70s). Doesn't mean it's gonna work for everyone, and you won't know until it's too late.

Okay, sorry, I didn't know that and didn't see a comment made when the nutritionist was added to the article.

I know my vet surgeon friend has done over a dozen heart surgeries on golden retrievers...might have to ask him what he thinks...but if fda doesnt know I wonder why they even put this out there?
