Have you looked at Annamaet brand? I use Manitok flavor, pretty clean food. Never tried sportsmix.
Not their original line, but Sportmix Wholesome Essentials? In light of the recent info regarding taurine related DCM I am looking for a good food for Niner with grains. He is my problem child. He doesn't do well on most foods. Royal Canin was a big fat fail. Proplan no matter what flavor or line he always has soft poop - not fun to pick up. He has done extremely well on Authority fish and potato, but of course potatoes and sweet potatoes are now suspect ingredients. I found Sportmix Wholesome Essentials fish and rice. Chewy has it and so does Tractor Supply. Just looking for feedback. Thanks. Oh Niner cannot do chicken anyrthing and I'm beginning to wonder about barley too

Yes thank you. It does look like a good food, but Niner needs a super simple food.
My only thought is purely speculation.
I tried switching Sunnie and Danny back to grain inclusive. First tried a lamb and rice formula (I'd had them on Calif. Nat. lamb and rice successfully until that brand changed hands) and neither one could tolerate it. Then figured that maybe they'd developed a problem with lamb and tried a small bag of chicken and rice (even though neither dog was ever good with chicken in the past....my cats couldn't eat real chicken but did fine with chicken kibble, so I took a chance). Even bigger mistake. (both of these were NutriSource products and I like that brand)
Both dogs did good with treats that contained rice. The only "unknown" ingredient in either of these foods was menhaden fish meal...neither had had that before.
Hence my speculation...that's the fish source in Sportmix.
I ended up leaving the pups on Nutrisource Prairie Select and resumed giving both of them yogurt and sardines to provide taurine. (Dan had had a bad reaction to the taurine supplement I'd tried.)
Man, I hate food issues. (and I really wish P & G hadn't screwed up...and eventually discontinued...Calif. Nat.)
Good luck!
Oh...anyone wondering if fish can really pose a problem? I've been highly sensitive to mackerel ever since I was a child. You don't want to know how it affects me. I'd forgotten that I had an issue with it and when a friend of mine went fishing and brought me fish, I fixed us dinner (this was back when I was in my 20's). I thought I'd somehow given us food poisoning but he was fine. When I mentioned it the next day to my mom, her response was "oh, you can't eat mackerel". Etc. I can't even use plain fish oil supplements since most of them could contain mackerel...and I wash my hands after doling out the pups' fish oil caps. Anyway....

Jack was eating the Sportmix Beef with Chickpea. It's grain free but he has to eat a kibble with no chicken and that was one of the few that had NO CHICKEN at all, not even chicken fat. Our guys get so much fresh mixed in, I wasn't going to worry about Jack too much with the grain free issue. They had a white fish formula too. He did alot better on sportmix in regards to poops. I tried the PP Sensitive Skin Stomach but we couldn't get firm stools on that.

Thanks Jen I was waiting for you to chime in lol. I saw in an old thread you were feeding the beef. Weird about PP Sensitive Skin. I can't get a firm stool for Niner on it either although he did fine with it before they changed the formula. My daughter's shepherd does great on it though. Go figure. I picked up a bag of the Sportmix fish and rice. We shall see how it goes. Thanks
