Diggity is doing well on it.

We have always fed Pro Plan Puppy Focus to our Lab pups and never had a issue...they always grew slowly and correctly. It's also very important that your puppy gets the proper nutrition the first months when he's growing. You don't want to deprive him of the protein, fat and calories he needs.

I also always believed that Labs will do better on a "middle of the road food", they really don't need the super, duper premium brands. Many of these brands have so many ingredients in them (too many) for a young dog's digestive system to handle.
I'm not purposely changing kibbles. I did find the best kibble for Lido. The kibble that Lido's doing fabulously on, Earthborn Puppy Vantage, has just been changed from grain inclusive to grain free. I had no idea that this was going to happen. If I had, I never would have put him on it. I'm currently looking for leftover bags of the original, grain inclusive formula - approved for large breed puppies, and I have found a couple of 15 pound bags at a local pet store. I'm continuing to search for others. This is the ONLY reason I that I'm going to have to change his food. I'm not purposely jumping on the kibble merry-go-round.

Back story: My vet suggested that I change from Pro-Plan, which I fed because the breeder feeds it and suggested it. Lido had never ending pudding poo on it, despite giving him probiotics and sticking with it for a couple of months. Lido was not gaining weight appropriately while on it, due to the diarrhea. Lido was tested for, and treated for parasites, despite a negative test, "just in case". On my vet's suggestion, I eventually changed to Royal Canin. Lido's poo firmed up (probably the psyllium husk in it), but he developed MASSIVE eye boogers, and nasty, gunky ears, that caused lots of head shaking/ear flapping. I had to clean Lido's ears frequently to keep him from getting ear infections, as well as cleaning his eyes multiple times a day. My vet is happy how he's doing on his current kibble. The difference? No wheat, corn, or soy. I can't think of any other reason. The protein is still chicken.

      Have you considered Nutrisource?

I believe they make a Large Breed Puppy Formula with no corn, wheat or soy.

Thanks, yes they do. However, peas are the 6th ingredient, with no added taurine to counteract them (although if peas prevent absorption of taurine, I'm not sure added taurine would help). I'm finding that even many grain inclusive kibbles are starting to add peas - ugh.

I have found an unlikely possibility at Petsmart, of all places. Their Simply Nourish Large Breed Puppy food is corn, wheat, soy, and pea free: https://www.petsmart.com/dog/food/dr...e-5184517.html. Something to consider.

I am not familiar with "Simply Nourish", but it looks like a food that is only available at Petsmart. Here's some info that I found:

Simply Nourish is a line of dog food sold exclusively by PetSmart and promises wholesome, healthy ingredients for your canine.
PetSmart claims that Simply Nourish uses natural ingredients only, avoiding harmful additives that can commonly be found in other dog foods. They pride themselves on not using artificial dyes or additives at all.
Simply Nourish is an US-based dog food, manufactured by American Nutrition. They manufacture in three locations: Woodland, WA, Ogden, UT, and Hazelton, PA.
American Nutrition was founded in 1972. They are a quality and trusted manufacturer, and consistently meet USDA, FDA, and AAFCO standards.
There have been no Simply Nourish dog food recalls, to our knowledge - although there have been recalls of Simply Nourish's pet treats.

Thanks! I ordered the liquid version just now. We'll see how it goes. I'm still feeding the Earthborn Puppy Vantage (grain inclusive). I have 1.5 pound bags left (14 pounds each). I'm looking at Annamaet Encore, when I start getting low on this (no replacement possible of the Puppy Vantage available, since the company has gone grain free). Annamaet Encore is grain inclusive, and it doesn't have corn, wheat, soy, or peas.

Good luck! I feed a different Annamaet (which is grain-free) to Chloe and have been very pleased with the results. Good company.
