    Food Rotation feeders, Question!

For those of you who do a rotation feed, how do you transition to a new bag? Do you just go cold turkey? Or do you transition when you get to the end of a bag?

We are thinking about rotating through the GF Fromm formulas, and want to know how to start this. Also, what benefits are you seeing? We are doing it simply because we want to add some variety to the proteins.

Lily gets everything cold turkey. Her stomach is made of iron but she get picky and only picks out what she wants when she gets more than one kind of kibble at once.

For Daisy we transition only the first time we start something new. She's fine switching cold turkey when it's something she's had before.

Kain goes cold turkey. I've narrowed down what works for him. We rotate more just for the idea of changing it up because I imagine he gets tired of the same food. Benefits are that should any food get recalled we always have a back up.

When I first started, I would do a slow transition to the new food, but now that they are used to it, I just go cold turkey between bags.

When I fed kibble I rotated between 3 brands...Fromm was one of them. I typically bought smaller bags so that I could mix it up throughout the week instead of using one bag and then going on to the next. I did that more for the fact that I thought it would be more fun for the dog.....to have some variety. I liked the idea of the 3 different brands just in case one of them ended up being recalled or it was hard to get for some reason.

I rotate between 4 brands, Fromm Surf and Turf, Wellness Core Wild Game, Earthborn Great Plains and Infinia Turkey and Sweet Potato. I have never done a transition while feeding this way. Because you intend to stay within the same line, (company), I don't see any reason you would need to transition. The Fromm GF line is very similar with the protien source being the majority of difference. Unless Bacon has a very sensitive tummy I would just change up the formula.

Mine can switch cold turkey between quite a dew different brands and protein sources. The only time I have issues is with certain types of fish based foods and I completely took those out of my rotation

Ideally, when you first transition to an untried food, you should transition over the course of a week. Then feed the new kibble exclusively for 3 months. It takes that long to determine if your dog thrives on the new food in terms of coat and skin, weight, energy level, etc.

Once you have established, let's say 3 different foods your dog does well on, then you may find only a couple days of transition or none at all is required. Some people like to change kibble after each bag; while others prefer to change every few months.

We switch cold turkey, but neither of our girls have ever had digestive issues or any problems with any food. We rotate every bag, so every month or so. I mostly stick to a few tried and true, but also mix it up if I see something interesting or there is a good sale. The dogs seem to like the novelty and I like the idea of them getting different proteins, vitamin mixes, etc.

I rotate three varieties of GF Fromm and do it cold turkey. The first change, did it over about a week, but after that, finish one, start another. Mardi and Archie have been doing great on it.
