You could check the date on the Duck bags you can find. If they are far out enough, you can stock up a bit. I did that when they were discontinuing the Salmon and Rice Selects (white bag). Still miss that formula. The turkey/rice is good too. And for the food snobs, it's still made without corn, wheat or soy, or artificial colors or flavors.

Yep I have two big bags, and I'm thinking about going back to pick up another one and maybe a smaller bag of another kind.

We'll get along better if folks recommend what they feed because they know if works vs. bashing certain brands because they think they know better. I recommend what I feed my dogs...PP and Earthborn Holistics.
I was not bashing any one brand or even recommending any brands
I was simply giving my opinion of dog foods that I feel use too many cheap fillers in their products especially Corn gluten meal and wheat.
I didn't even bring up the over use of Poultry by-product meal Poultry by-product meal - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
All foods use cheap fillers but it matters how much of the food is filler and how much it is of nutritional value.
It happens to be that Pro Plan is one of those products that has all three of these ingredients listed in the very top of their ingredient list.
My opinion is not based on marketing hype
I have owned dogs for 30 years.
My wife had been in the pet industry for 28 years and we had owned a pet related business for 13 of those years.
I have raised many other types of animals on our land for over 12 years and I have always researched the quality of the foods that I have fed them.
I know for a fact that foods that contain high amounts of Corn and Wheat have been linked to allergies and I know that gluten and soy can cause digestive issues.
For me my choice is to try to avoid products that uses high amounts of by-product meal ingredients and I will not feed gluten or soy to my animals.
I have raised 2 wolf dogs to the ages of 13 and 14 and that could not even digest foods with soy and gluten and would get very ill when they eat foods with these ingredients.
That is why I have made it a point to study the foods I feed my animals.

That's nice, but when someone is asking a question about PP, it's not exactly necessary to go into the evils you believe to be true about a food that works wonderfully for many people.

Telling us about horrible the food is isn't really constructive to those needing help with the particular brand in question. They'll be plenty of threads where folks can bitch about the horrible things going on in the dog food industry. It's just not needed in this thread.

    And that's my

Thanks for all of the suggestions and advice. There is ALOT of information out there on dog food, I get overwhelmed w/ looking at times and just give up. Rudy (and past labs) have done well on PP. He seems to be eating the Duck/rice kibble so maybe he was just tired of the flavor of the other PP. I guess switching it up every so often w/ a different flavor of PP would not hurt, as long as I mix old w/ new and do it gradually.

As long as you're staying with ProPlan, you shouldn't need to do the long switch. I rotate flavors of a different food brand (a different flavor every bag, but the same line of food), you shouldn't have a problem doing an immediate switch.

There's nothing wrong with rotating brands of food either; once a dog gets used to rotation, you shouldn't have to do the ease of transition.

Have a neighbor that feeds whatever food is on sale - the dog is so used to instant transitions that it doesn't bother him and actually keeps him very interested in the next meal.

You could also try the PP Sensitive and Stomach. Niner's been on that one for over a year. He has done well. Good poops, clean ears, very nice coat, good energy and just an overall happy dog. Charlie my other boy is on Holistic Select and he has done well with that one.

Just got an e-mail from the Purina company. They told me that "they" weren't discontinuing the pro plan selects Duck and Rice formula, but maybe the store I bought it at was going to. That is not how I took it when talking to the girl there. She made it sound like the company was not going to make it anymore. Well I'm all stocked up on it for a while. Just wanted to correct myself, and say they're still making it. Sorry
